About me

Hi, I'm Rebecca - a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist (Accredited BACP memeber) based in Shropshire.  I am also a qualified practitioner in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Regulation). I work with a diverse range of issues with people from all backgrounds on a short, medium or long-term basis depending on need. I offer a professional, non-judgemental and confidential service, for adults and couples offering an integrative approach that works best for my client.

Previous Experience

My lens on the world is wide. I enjoyed a very successful career working in a SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) working with Adults and Children who had experienced rape and sexual assault, CSE and childhood sexual abuse. I have court room training and have supported many women through the legal system process working closely with victim support and axis.

I specialise in working with people with a wide range of issues working for many years with PTSD, CPTSD, abuse, trauma and loss. I also have experience working with neurodiversity including ADHD and autism.

Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy and CBT

My work is based on Humanistic Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which addresses people’s reinforcing beliefs and behaviours. Together we will look at what has brought you into therapy, and explore your thoughts and feelings to help you gain insight to how past events, a problem in the present, or fears for the future may be affecting your daily living. Sometimes people just want to know more about themselves.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)

EMDR therapy is an effective treatment for trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and relieving psychological stress; particularly for people struggling to talk about past experiences. EMDR is also increasingly recommended for depression, phobias and anxiety.

Many individuals who come into therapy are in a vulnerable or difficult place and I advocate the importance of you feeling 'safe' and 'comfortable' within the therapeutic setting.

As our therapeutic relationship grows and strengthens, we jointly begin to understand how you perceive your situation, what you want to change about it and what is holding you back. Therapy can help you make permanent changes in your life and to your emotional growth and well-being. This is because therapy is about offering a supported environment, as well as a new relationship - where you can learn to do things differently, learn to take control of your life, learn to be different, whilst also understanding yourself and others better.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
