About me

Hello, my name’s Rebecca Corlett. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor and Sunflower Counselling is my private practice, based in Hertfordshire. My practice is called Sunflower Counselling because sunflowers symbolise hope and positivity as they look towards and track the sun across the sky.

I work predominantly online but I am also happy to work by phone, as well as face to face from my room in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. I aim to offer you a non-judgemental, safe and supportive environment where you can be heard and accepted and where you can explore and process your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.  I am not here to advise you, or tell you what to do - I do not live your life and that's not my place - but we can work together and I can support you to explore and discover your own answers.

As well as a symbol of hope and positivity, the sunflower is a symbol found on the sunflower lanyard representing hidden disability and is a sign that the wearer may need extra time, support and understanding. As a neurodivergent therapist I have a special interest in neurodiversity and have experience in working with both neurotypical and neurodivergent clients, as well as those with other challenges and disabilities. Neurodivergent clients often need to move around, stim, fiddle, doodle – this is all fine, and I invite you to discuss with me anything you might need to make therapy more accessible to you. I take a neuro affirming stance and embrace uniqueness and difference.

I am a registered member for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which means that I adhere to their code of ethics.

My training and qualifications include:

This list is not exhaustive and I am happy to work with you if you are experiencing common mental health problems, personal challenges, or wanting to explore and further your understanding of yourself in a safe space.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
