About me

Hello, my name is Opal. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to consider therapy with me.

I understand that right now you may be experiencing a range of conflicting thoughts, feelings and emotions and the beginning of this process can certainly feel daunting, especially in current times. Here's a little bit about me and what I offer.

What I offer and my approach

I am a qualified and experienced, British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) registered Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist offering a safe, warm and confidential space to work together through life's difficulties from a holistic stance - valuing you as a whole person. This could be to explore anxiety, depression, abuse, low self-esteem, relationship and family issues  or something else, working together in a collaborative way at your own pace. I hope to initiate positive change through putting you the client, at the centre of the therapy, establishing and maintaining a healthy therapeutic relationship between us (working relationally/interpersonally) and allowing you the autonomy and choice to find your own solutions in life, whilst supporting you through this.

If you wish to explore a diagnosis already received or wish to seek one, such as ADHD or other neurodivergence, then we can most definitely explore this in depth, however I am unable to give a formal diagnosis.

My viewpoint is that we all have the power to make changes, but sometimes need to explore elements of the past, present and future and need support to achieve this.

I may also integrate elements of other counselling modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) working towards changing thought processes and behaviours, and Mindfulness Based Therapy using meditation or visualisation/imagery for example, which will be tailored to you, as therapy is not a one size fits all approach. With your full ongoing consent, I may integrate elements of bodywork, such as breathing work, gentle touch and physical experiential exercises, again tailored to you as an individual.

If suited to you and our work together, I may also offer “psycho education” to really find meaning and understand what is going on for you from a psychological point of view. This can be powerful in honouring and normalising your experiences and understanding your “true self”.

You may be struggling through the day, feeling stuck and alone with this. I promise to really hear you and offer an empathic, non-judgemental approach, whilst gently challenging to initiate change and personal growth. You may feel that you have never really been "heard" or haven't in a very long time.

Availability

I can offer sessions via telephone or an online platform such as Zoom or Skype, as well as face to face sessions if this would suit you better. I offer face to face sessions in one of the lovely rooms within the NG5 area at The Magnolia Therapy Centre, Nottingham. https://www.magnoliatherapycentre.com/ - however, I currently have no availability for face to face sessions.

This is just outside the Nottingham City Centre with some parking and excellent transport links around the city.

I offer both short term and long term therapy best suited to your individual needs and before making a start we can explore this.

With my current limited availability, I am able to offer online/telephone sessions on alternate Monday afternoons/evenings. This would therefore be working on a fortnightly (every other week) basis. I am operating a waiting list for any in-person, face to face sessions.

I do have some availability to all, for telephone / online sessions, at a reduced fee of £40.

Please feel free to contact me, if you would like to explore any of this further.

The Beginning

Initially, I offer a free of charge, introductory 20 minute telephone or video call (the choice is yours). This is to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have, explore your wants and needs from therapy, and anything else you would like to explore within this timeframe.

I understand this is a big step and there is no pressure to commit to further sessions. It is about you as an individual, addressing the above and seeing how we fit to begin with.

Please feel free to contact me by email or via phone - call/text (I may be unable to answer, but please do leave an answerphone message, and I will get back to all enquires as soon as possible during my dedicated admin time over the week). We can then go from there and take it step by step at your own pace.

I am looking forward to hearing from you, and a little about your world.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
