About me

Hello and welcome, I'm really pleased you're here. I want you to know that however you feel right now, you deserve to feel better. People I have helped tell me they feel anxious but they’re not sure why. They never feel good enough, often ‘wearing a mask’, and feel like they’re going mad. If you feel the same, I assure you, you are not going mad. Maybe you’re just experiencing being neurodivergent in a world not made for you.

Sometimes these feelings can arise from unresolved trauma, often from being neurodivergent in a world created for neurotypical people and figuring this out is something I will guide you through in therapy. Trauma can be obvious life  experiences such as grief or abuse, but it can also be things such as emotional neglect, an absent parent, or being bullied at school. In truth, anything that has an adverse effect on you can be considered trauma.

I’m Natalie an Autistic, Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with a passion for helping people like you heal from life's difficulties. As a therapist, I put myself in your world to see through your eyes and the healing comes from the human-to-human connection in our relationship. My goal as a therapist is to help you to know yourself, feel like you again and be your authentic self.

I work with autistic adults who are exploring their identity after a late diagnosis. Many of my clients come to therapy to navigate issues including, but not limited to, masking, burnout, anxiety, and building authentic relationships. I offer both online sessions and in-person therapy from my base in Stoke-on-Trent.

The client/therapist relationship is a confidential and empathic one. I have learned that a counsellor who relates to your neurodivergence is important as it helps you feel seen and understood. I will listen to you while you explore your inner thoughts and feelings, guiding you to understand and make sense of them. I focus on your concerns and tailor my therapy skills to your unique needs. Clients tell me that after therapy they feel better in themselves, psychologically ‘lighter’ and ready to face life’s challenges head on.

You can have an initial consultation without charge to give you the opportunity to talk about yourself and decide if I am the right therapist for you. At this consultation you can also choose a regular time and day for your therapy sessions. To arrange your consultation, please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a bachelor's degree in Counselling and Psychology and a Master of Science in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and I am currently working towards Chartered Psychologist status.

During my counselling training, I supported survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, childhood trauma and abuse. I am currently doing a comprehensive trauma training CPD.

In my private practice I have worked with primarily neurodivergent people who initially came to me for trauma counselling.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP) working towards accreditation and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPSs).

I abide by the BACP ethical framework in my practice, and I have regular supervision to support my client work.

My experience is seventeen years in healthcare across different settings, including eight as a counsellor with over 3100 client hours delivered. I have worked across all age groups, with special needs, stroke and neurological disorders/illnesses, Alzheimer's and supporting family members who support these people. I have worked in multiple ability settings, in the community, nursing homes and hospitals. I lived in Sri Lanka working with underprivileged children in community settings as well as institutionalised women and men.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
