About me

Hello, I’m Morven.

I am an open hearted, deeply curious and reflective counsellor.

I imagine you are here because you are at some sort of crossroads in your life or relationship. Perhaps old patterns or ways of thinking, which served you up to now, are no longer comfortable. You may be curious to discover whether there could be another way. Something different, a new way of seeing or being, is trying to emerge.

Supporting clients through these challenging and vulnerable periods of transition, self discovery and transformation, is my great privilege.

I am a Mother. I also have a wide variety of interests and pursuits including: Meditation/ spirituality.  I'm a singer songwriter/ musician. I write and enjoy poetry. I am currently completing a storyteller apprenticeship (supported by Traditional Arts Scotland/ Scottish Storytelling Centre).

I also work as an Independent Speech and Language Therapist (20 years experience).

I try my best to swim in a loch at least once every day and I am excited about the growing awareness and body of research relating to the profound and transformative uses of medicinal plants/ psychedelics and their therapeutic applications for psychological health.

I moved from East London to the Trossachs in 2018 (though born and raised in Scotland).

Where do we go from here?

Take a wee moment to turn inwards. Having read a little about me, do you feel like I could be the ‘right fit’ for you?

… If the answer is a yes or a maybe, then the next step is for you to contact me to arrange an initial consultation (in person or online). This is an opportunity for us to meet and for me to listen and understand what is bringing you to therapy and to gather relevant background information that could support our therapeutic journey together. Importantly, this is also an opportunity for us to decide whether it feels like a good fit before proceeding with counselling.

If we decide to proceed further, we would agree to meet for an initial course of 6 weekly sessions. On the 5th or 6th session we will review. You may feel this has been sufficient or you may decide to continue open endedly.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling from the Psychosynthesis Trust. The course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and awarded by Middlesex University.

I hold a First Class BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Sciences from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.  I worked across a wide range of roles within the NHS to the level of 'highly specialist', prior to moving into private practice as a consultant speech and language therapist. I have worked in the UK, Australia and in Kenya.

I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Health and Care Professionals Council

I am deeply committed to my continuing personal and professional development. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework. I attend regular clinical supervision to support my work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
