About me

I'm an Integrative Psychotherapeutic Therapist with a Harley Street and Islington practice.  I can work on-line if you prefer.  I also work in the NHS.

My style is warm, open and empathic. I am engaging and direct. My job is to keep you safe and be alongside you helping you resolve what is troubling you.  As an integrative practitioner, I draw on different modalities to create high quality individualised therapy that meets your needs.

I firmly believe that the key to successful therapy is your relationship with your therapist. Do you trust them? Without that baseline I feel healing will elude you.

My clients tell me that they feel safe and comfortable with me.  That they can tell me what is troubling them without feeling judged. That I'm not afraid to get into the weeds alongside them to help them gain perspective and heal. That I've helped them face and overcome past traumas as well as practically grapple with day-to-day issues in front of them.

People come to therapy for a multitude of different reasons.  Nothing is not important.  My practice includes clients with diverse needs and backgrounds.

Some clients seek short term support to work on specific issues, for example, recent bouts of anxiety or depression, work and/or relationship transitions and crisis, fertility treatment, neurodiversity assessments, moving countries … anything really.

Other clients come into therapy wanting to work in an open-ended way.  They may have started to see underlying issues that come back again and again affecting their quality of life.  This work can help you heal from old complex traumas which have been spilling over to affect your life today.

Whatever is troubling you I’m here to listen and offer you empathy as we work together to turn things around for you.

Last, but never least, I have a lovely therapy dog.  A wee whippet called Bella who depending on where you see me can be present.  The healing power of therapy animals has been well documented; however I know dogs are not everyone's favourite so let me know if you would prefer her not to be present.

I am accredited by the BACP and comply with the BACP and UKCP ethical guidelines.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a relational integrative therapist, I am trained in different psychotherapeutic modalities to allow me to work with you in different ways depending on your needs.

My practice is always evolving and these are some of psychotherapeutic modalities I draw upon:

  • I am trauma-informed, including being able to use somatic interventions to ensure you are safe and move at a pace that works for you.
  • I draw on humanistic and psychodynamic modalities to maintain trust between us and help you to explore and heal from your past.
  • I use existentialism, especially phenomenological enquiry to help you reflect and get to know yourself better.
  • I use attachment theory and neuroscience to help you better understand your attachment style and manage your emotions.
  • If you are feeling stuck, I can help by experimenting in the here and now with Gestalt techniques or use Transactional Analysis to work with different parts of you.
  • I use Compassion-Based CBT to help you develop new healthy behaviours, especially to strengthen capacity for self-compassion, resilience and to empower you.
  • I am very holistic.  Sometimes just suggesting you eat better and go for a walk will be part of our work.

Life Experience

As a child I grew up and have since lived and worked internationally including in Africa, the Middle East, America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific.  Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a diplomat and worked for the UN, Commonwealth, British and New Zealand governments.  I mainly worked as a conflict adviser and human rights lawyer helping people in countries affected by trauma, including war.

I have had the privilege of working with a multitude of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences of pain.  They have taught me to be deeply respectful of cultural diversity and to know deeply just how unique and valid each of our experiences of pain are. I feel that I bring these qualities into my work with you as your therapist, offering you understanding, respect and empathy.

For relevant clients

Given my experience of conflict, human rights and justice systems across the world, I reserve a small proportion of my practice for persons affected by these issues. This includes working with clients grappling with civil or criminal legal proceedings, e.g. divorce.  I also work with persons navigating the impact of conflict or rights abuses/atrocity crime, whether that be primary or vicarious trauma.

Please note I do not offer legal advice.  Please also know that if this is not you, that's okay, I can still help.  This is just an additional lens I bring for some clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Research shows that one of the key determiners in whether therapy will help you is the psychotherapeutic relationship you have with your therapist.

If you like my profile please contact me. After making contact if you decide you would like to start therapy with me, I will invite you to a 50-minute assessment session.

This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other better. I will want to know more about you and your history, about what brings you to therapy now and your goals. You will want to get sense of how I work, what it is like to be in a room and in conversation with me.

In this session, I will also go over practicalities such as confidentiality and timekeeping. I will invite you to ask any questions you have about the process of therapy.

Studies show that just being able to tell your story to a trained therapist in an initial session can be healing. If we choose not to work together I will want to help you however I can by signposting you to other services.
