About me

There is a broad spectrum of reasons why people seek and can benefit from counselling. The reasons may seem clear, or may feel somewhat out of reach, yet there is a sense that talking to someone may help? Counselling can help us to better understand the source of our distress, to resolve it and move forward in ways that serve us better as individuals. I consider it a privilege to work with people in this endeavour and recognise that it is important that you find the right person to talk to.

How I work as your counsellor
Being a person-centred counsellor, I work in an non-directive manner, viewing my clients as the expert about themselves. I provide you with the space to work on your own agenda and at your own pace, as we explore the issues you wish to bring to counselling - secure in the knowledge that our sessions are confidential and free from judgement. I aim to work alongside you in such a way that you can develop the solutions, which you feel work best for you.

My personal experience
My own experience in personal counselling, was profoundly beneficial to me.  It allowed me to understand my needs, the beliefs I held that: worked against me satisfying those needs and that deterred from appreciating those moments.  In the simplest terms, it helped me to understand: 'how I really tick' and appreciate what makes others 'tick' too; consequently, my relationships also improved.  I find the opportunity to be a part of that therapeutic process for others to be a cherished privilege.

Where do I work from?
I work from Ara House Therapy Centre, which is located in Preston and Rutherford House in Warrington.   Online sessions are also available.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work in accordance with their ethical framework.

I receive feedback from clients that I am: compassionate, understanding and genuine. This is the feedback I value the most, as at the core of my practice is my client.  I believe the therapeutic process, works best when these human qualities are present in the relationship; consequently, my clients tell me they value my 'realness'. Counselling can require courage or may seem daunting, I recognise this; strive to be sensitive to my clients experience and to ensure they do not feel pressured. I find the results to be positive and I am always delighted to hear how my clients have benefited from therapy or are finding their lives more fulfilling.

The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
