About me

Hi! My name is Maya (she/her).

I am an integrative queer therapist working with LGBTQIA+ young people and adults. I work online (via Zoom, Teams or Google Meet).

I offer a free initial 30-minute phone call/online video meeting so you can meet me, ask questions and see if I am the right fit for you!

  • I work integratively and will work alongside you to find therapeutic approaches that best fit you.
  • I particularly enjoy working creatively through online sand tray and inner child work. I am also beginning to renovate doll houses to use in future in-person therapy sessions.
  • My main focus during a therapeutic intervention will be to listen to what you want and need whilst offering a supportive, affirming non-judgmental space.
  • Please note that I am an LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist. I believe that being LGBTQIA+ is natural and something to be celebrated and reclaimed. This will always be my approach.
  • Alongside my twin sibling Max, I founded Devon-based LGBTQIA+ social enterprise Proud2Be in 2011 and together, we have led the organisation through a global pandemic, austerity and a cost of living crisis. I have over 12 years of experience working alongside queer people from all walks of life.
  • I don't offer advice. I provide spaces for queer people to reach their own answers and let go of some of the things that might be stopping them from thriving.
  • I am LGBTQIA+ and my lived experience does inform my work. However, what has worked for me, may not work for you which is why I offer individualised sessions based on what you need.

I am a gentle, kind and quirky person with a good sense of humour! My sessions are relaxed, informal and full of warmth and acceptance.

Feel free to send me a message!

Training, qualifications & experience

I am passionate about creating warm, nurturing and safe spaces for people to talk openly whilst beginning to unpick the things that might be halting them in living their best, most authentic life!

My work is rooted in person-centred therapy. I utilise various other therapeutic techniques including life timelines, gestalt therapy, online sand tray work and inner child work. I am ultimately led by the client and what they need.

  • I trained at Devon Counselling College and hold a level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling.
  • I am BACP registered and work in line with their code of ethics.
  • I am the designated safeguarding lead for the LGBTQIA+ organisation Proud2Be.
  • I co-founded a grassroots LGBTQIA+ support organisation proud2Be and have worked alongside LGBTQIA+ people for the past 12 years.
  • I have worked with children and young people in a variety of roles over 20 years.
  • In future, I plan to obtain a diploma in sexology and integrate 'Doll House Therapy' as part of my work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
