About me

I am a registered accredited psychodynamic therapist and supervisor currently working within a children's charity as well as in private practice. I offer a confidential, face to face or online, therapy service to individuals as well as couples aged 18 and over. I have experience of working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds including; culture, race, religion, age and sexuality. My practice is based in Broomfield, close to the hospital.

Counselling/therapy can be useful for someone who wants to explore the way they are thinking or feeling, as well as anyone experiencing a problem or issue they are keen to resolve. People may choose to speak to a therapist because they feel they can't speak to their partner, friends or family about their problems, or they simply wish to speak to a professional with an objective viewpoint. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues and difficulties, including depression, anxiety, OCD, relationship issues, anger, bereavement and stress.

As your therapist I will not tell you what to do, instead I will encourage you to talk about what is bothering you in order to begin to understand the root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. This way we can begin to understand your current difficulties and how best to move forward. Therapy is not a quick fix and may involve dealing with some potentially very difficult feelings.

A safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to speak in, is often all it takes. While I will not give you concrete advice or a checklist of things to do to feel better, what I will try and help you understand is how past experiences and current behaviour may be connected. This can help you to uncover your own insight and understanding of your problems, providing you with the tools, which will then help you to resolve them on your own.

For the majority of my clients a single session is rarely enough in order to overcome whatever is troubling them. Counselling is a journey, and it takes time and consistency to work effectively. This is why most people chose to attend regular sessions in order to get the most out of the process.

Counselling can also help you to understand yourself better and the way you think. This will allow you to get a clearer understanding of your difficulties, thereby enabling you to better manage your way through any problems you are facing, leading to feeling more positive.

Lastly, counselling/therapy can also help you to see things from someone else's viewpoint better, which may in turn give you a better understanding of the way you perceive words and actions.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
