About me
I offer face to face and online therapy for couples and individuals. I am happy to offer a short telephone consultation to give you the opportunity to get a feel for who I am and my work, and to enable me to get sense of your important concerns.
Entering into a therapeutic counselling relationship can be scary, and in the early sessions I will support you to feel safe by listening carefully to understand your needs. We can plan together how to meet these in a way that honours you and the time we are investing.
As a couple you may be wanting to explore how to shift a damaging repetitive pattern of behaviour, or you may be wanting to re-connect to a feeling of closeness.
As individuals, you may be bringing a difficult past experience, or a problem in the present or anxieties about the future. It can be helpful to be curious about these things and how they show up in the therapy room. The future is not fixed and it can be exhilarating to find that change is possible.
I'll always try to understand your experience form your perspective, so we can seek the solutions that will best fit your life and values.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Post-graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Therapy from the University of East London. I completed this qualification in 2022
I originally trained as a therapist in 1995 at City University, then side stepped into a career as a group facilitator and trainer in the drug and alcohol sector. After 25 years working with groups and individuals with histories of Trauma, I have re-trained and qualified to set up my own counselling and therapy business.
More recently I have been developing my knowledge of Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems. I am particularly interested in how past trauma shows up in significant relationships.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Before therapy it can be helpful to think about what you'd like to achieve in this precious time. For example, taking time to explore how your early life and family relationships relate to your current experiences; or understand how to change reactions or behaviour that no longer serves you; or to get support for trauma from race, class and/ or gendered oppression or perhaps you might need some time to work out who you really are and how you truly want to be.
Also, think about how you'd like me to be. Would you like me to quietly hold space while you lead your therapy, or would you like more discussion or input from me. You might like the idea of walking and talking. If you think you would like to explore therapy outside of the room or online space, let me know. Feel free to ask for what you want and to give me feedback about our work together. I will listen without judgment.
