About me

My practice has a particular emphasis on careful and compassionate non-judgemental listening. I am always empathic, open, honest and friendly and want all of my clients to feel safe to explore anything and everything that they feel is necessary.

I have qualifications in Person-Centred counselling and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, with work-based, academic and voluntary experience in the charity sector for over five years.

I’m experienced with clients experiencing a range of difficulties including, but not limited to, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, low self-esteem, relational issues, anger, stress and problems relating to school and careers. I’m always led by my clients in terms of the issues they would like to resolve. I’ve used play and creative therapies in addition to traditional talking therapy.

My counselling experience encompasses adults, young people and children, including those with special educational needs.

I've worked with clients face-to-face and remotely, via telephone, WhatsApp and Zoom. I will work in whichever way suits your needs, but would recommend face-to-face counselling. My home has a private room dedicated to counselling clients, for absolute confidentiality.

Counselling sessions last for fifty minutes.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been a Registered BACP member since 2019 and am committed to upholding the Values, Principles and Personal Moral Qualities which are the heart of the Ethical Framework.

Qualifications:

Manchester Counselling Training Centre 2018-2019: CPCAB Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills Level 5.

This qualification allows me to work with clients using the skills and methods of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Manchester Counselling Training Centre 2016-2018: CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling Level 4.

This qualification allows me to work with clients using the skills and methods of Person-Centred counselling.

In my work, I often integrate both Person-Centred practice and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, depending upon the therapeutic needs of individual clients.

I have had both work-based experience and formal training to work with children and young people using Play Therapy. I also have training and work-based experience working with children and young people with special educational needs, including three years of experience working in a Special Educational Needs Secondary School.

Other training includes:

  • Bereavement Awareness for Secondary School Staff (Child Bereavement UK)
  • Suicide Bereavement
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Alcohol-Exposed Pregnancies
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Early Trauma
  • Adolescence, angst and anxiety: How to support young people (Charlie Waller)
  • Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention
  • Introduction to Safeguarding Adults: Level 1 (NHS Health Education England)
  • Safeguarding Children: Level 1 (NHS Health Education England)
  • Data Security Awareness: Level 1 (NHS Health England)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Key details

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My consultation room is on the ground floor. It has a bathroom attached with some mobility aids. There is access to the house via the back door, where there is a ramp. Please get in touch with me to discuss this further.
