About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Kathryn, trained to BA level, I am an Integrative psychotherapist registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Central to my work is a personal and deep understanding of the need to be seen, heard and respected. As this experience can be denied to many, I offer a safe, confidential space where pain can be witnessed and repaired in the context of a warm, non-judgemental, and responsive relationship. As each one of us is unique, I tailor my approach to your individual needs and will be committed to supporting and encouraging you as we work through your feelings, experiences, and relationships.

I draw mostly from psychodynamic theory. Put simply, psychodynamic theory focuses on our past and present relationships, how we interact with others, how we see ourselves, others, and the world. By reflecting on our thinking, feeling and behaviours we can address aspects from our past which might influence current difficulties, or perhaps identify habits that are blocking us from achieving our potential.

It can sometimes be easier to talk to someone outside of your family or friendship circle and you will have a safe space to explore what is happening presently in your life or perhaps look at unresolved or painful experiences from your formative years and childhood. I offer a collaborative and unique approach which can open up the possibility of living differently and achieving your aims and goals.

I have noticed that in the ‘hurry’ of modern life, painful experiences can be side-lined, or we may be encouraged by well-meaning others to move forward too quickly. Sometimes we need a safe, reflective, and inclusive space to tell our stories, to make meaning of them so that we can move forward in a way that honours all our lived experiences.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Background

My background includes providing therapeutic support for: fertility issues, infant loss, ending a pregnancy, stillbirth, miscarriage, and rainbow pregnancies. I have experience working as a group facilitator for a homeless charity, counselling adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, young adults experiencing disordered eating and those experiencing anxiety, bereavement, and loss.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a hairdresser, and for the RSPCA and the NHS.  I have been fortunate to work with many different people from a variety of cultures, religions and social backgrounds. This experience has helped to inform my practice.

In terms of qualifications and memberships, I am a qualified counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and bound by their Ethical Framework, including undertaking regular clinical supervision.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
