Kate Shanahan MBACP, Adv. Dip. Psychotherapeutic Counselling
I am an experienced therapist having previously worked in different agency settings and also in private practice. I now work from the centre of Bideford and can be flexible on days.
The method I work with is the Integrative model at the centre of which is relationship. Relationship with your Self, others and the world around you. You may be quite clear why you wish to come for counselling or it may be for a general feeling you wish to explore. I offer counselling either short term or longer term and in more depth.
There are many reasons you may be looking for support and understanding in your life; it may be to do with depression or anxiety, relationship breakdown, PTSD, bereavement, historical experiences being triggered by experiences today, domestic violence and abuse, low self-esteem to name but a few. Imagine having the space where you can freely say how you feel and what you think, understand why you're thinking specific thoughts and doing what you're doing and to explore all of this in a non-judgemental environment. With the potential for changing your life for the positive. Taking this first step is often the most daunting.
I am a registered member of the BACP and work to their ethical framework.

What to expect?
A safe environment and professional relationship to facilitate the therapeutic process.
I offer an initial telephone call where you can ask me questions and we can establish whether you would like to come and see me. The first session is charged at £40 and is 80 minutes long. This is to allow me to complete my assessment and to ensure I am the right person to work with you, this is something we can discuss. It is really important you are happy and comfortable to work with me this is usually easier for clients to decide once we have met. We will discuss this in the session and if I believe you would benefit from me signposting you on to another suitably qualified counsellor we shall discuss this also. I believe our working together needs to be mutually agreeable.
If we are in agreement we will arrange appointments going forward.
Payment shall be made weekly in advance.
I accept cash or bank transfer.
