About me

Hi, my name is Jo, and I’m an experienced Relationship and Individual Counsellor, dedicated to supporting couples and individuals in navigating the complexities of their relationships and lives. My approach is rooted in empathy, respect, and non-judgment, providing a safe space for exploration and reflection. Through shared discussion and therapeutic techniques, I empower my clients to navigate challenges, uncover underlying patterns, and build healthier connections.

Relationship therapy:

I specialised & qualified as a Relationship Counsellor in 2018 and since then have helped many couples improve their relationships and build stronger connections. I have experience across a range of issues such as:

  • Communication problems: Difficulty expressing thoughts and feelings, or ineffective communication styles leading to misunderstandings and conflicts.
  • Trust issues: Betrayal, infidelity, or breaches of trust that have damaged the foundation of the relationship.
  • Intimacy issues: Challenges with physical intimacy, sexual dissatisfaction, emotional closeness, or feeling disconnected from one another.
  • Financial conflicts: Disagreements over money management, spending habits, or financial priorities.
  • Parenting differences: Conflicts regarding parenting styles, discipline methods, or decisions about children's upbringing.
  • Life transitions: Stressors such as career changes, relocation, starting a family, or empty nesting, which can strain the relationship.
  • Role expectations: Conflicts over traditional gender roles, household responsibilities, or expectations regarding career and family balance.
  • Family dynamics: Issues related to in-laws, extended family involvement, or cultural differences affecting the relationship.
  • Emotional baggage: Unresolved past traumas, childhood experiences, or personal issues that impact the couple's dynamic.
  • Lack of quality time: Busy schedules, competing priorities, or neglecting to spend meaningful time together as a couple.
  • Resentment and unresolved conflicts: Lingering unresolved issues, grudges, or resentment that erode trust and intimacy.
  • Lack of shared goals: Differences in values, life goals, or long-term aspirations that create tension and hinder relationship satisfaction.

I work with all my couples on an individual basis and tailor the work we do to suit their specific needs. I have tried and tested methods that can support your relationship and help you improve connection, reach agreement on pressing issues, develop a stronger understanding of each other’s needs, including how to meet these, and start to heal past hurt and trauma. Ultimately, leading to a much happier and fulfilling relationship for you both.

Individual Therapy:

Alongside couples counselling I am also experienced and qualified in individual therapy where I am committed to supporting individuals on their journey to self-improvement and personal growth. Some of the issues I support my clients with include:

  • Anxiety: Persistent worry, fear, or panic that significantly impacts daily functioning and well-being.
  • Depression: Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness that interfere with daily life and enjoyment.
  • Relationship issues: Conflicts, communication problems, trust issues, or difficulties with intimacy within romantic relationships, family dynamics, or friendships.
  • Stress management: Coping with stressors such as work pressures, financial concerns, life transitions, or health issues.
  • Grief and loss: Coping with the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or other significant losses.
  • Self-esteem and self-worth: Struggles with self-confidence, self-acceptance, and feelings of inadequacy or unworthiness.
  • Life transitions: Adjusting to major life changes such as career transitions, relocation, retirement, or becoming a parent.
  • Identity exploration: Exploring questions of identity, sexuality, gender, cultural identity, or existential concerns related to meaning and purpose in life.
  • Anger management: Learning to understand and manage intense feelings of anger or frustration in healthy and constructive ways.
  • Unresolved histories: Unresolved past traumas, childhood experiences, or personal issues that have a negative impact personal growth, self-esteem, relationships and more.

As an integrative counsellor, I am trained across a range of therapeutic approaches, which means I can draw from many psychological and evidenced based theories and techniques to work with you in a way that is suited to your needs, helping you to unlock your own understanding and develop your own perspectives on issues that may be causing you difficulties in your life.

How I work:

I work online with all my clients over a secure video platform, something I have found very successful. This allow convenience and flexibility for my clients, offering them more choice on where they have therapy and how much time they dedicate to the process. My services are confidential and non-judgemental, I offer a safe space for you to explore your experiences and any difficulties you may have. Counselling is your time, it’s your choice, it’s your opportunity to explore you.

If there is anything you would like to know about my experience or services, you can contact me directly via phone, text, or email, and further information can be found on my social media platforms or my website, where you can also book a free consultation.
