About me

Hello, and welcome to my profile page! Whether this is your first search for a counsellor, or you've been through this process before, I hope the information provided here will give you a sense of who I am, how I work, and whether I can provide what you are looking for.

I believe, and the research shows, how important it is for you to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with and whom you can trust. That is why I offer a free initial session or phone call to see if we could be a good fit to work together. I have significant experience working face-to-face or online offering open-ended or fixed-term sessions.

My aim is to help you explore and understand what is going on in your life and to connect with your real unique self. Our work together would involve exploring and gaining an understanding of your feelings, experiences, thoughts, behaviours, values and beliefs. This can involve looking at what is occurring in the present for you, what has happened in the past and what you want in the future. I will listen attentively to your experience, offering responses to help you understand yourself and work collaboratively on what is bothering you.

I strive to provide a safe, confidential space where you can open up.  Each person is unique and therefore the counselling I offer will be flexible to meet you, eg some clients prefer more structured sessions, others more free-flowing and open-ended. We can also incorporate creative methods eg using art or mindmaps, if that feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • My work is grounded in the person-centred approach, which means that I believe in your own inner resources and ability for growth and change.
  • We would work collaboratively and actively to explore what you want to discuss. I will offer a passionate presence to support you in talking through what bring you to therapy, than can sometimes be difficult, traumatic and painful experiences.
  • I encourage you to commit to counselling by bringing yourself as you are and keeping regular appointments as this has been proven to significantly impacts its effectiveness.
  • I undertook a rigorous 4 year training programme gaining a BA (Hons) in Person-Centred counselling at Metanoia Institute. I also have a diploma in counselling and also have training in psychodynamic, attachment theory, transactional analysis and mindfulness.
  • I abide by the BACP code of ethics and am committed to be in service to you the client.
  • I work from an LGBTQIA+ affirmative position, and I work in a way that encourages each of us to be truly who we are, embracing our differences and unique selves.
  • I use check-ins in our work to ensure you are getting what you need from counselling and that we are working on what you want to focus on, actively seeking feedback for what is working well and what isn't.

I have experience working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, self-esteem, life and career changes, neurodiversity (ADHD/Autism), relationship issues or breakdown, and identity exploration.

However painful, difficult, stuck or unsure you are in your life at this point there is hope that things can improve. I believe that we each at different times in our lives face mental health struggles. While some things are in our control a great deal isn't and sometimes we need help to support us, that's where counselling can come in.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Who am I? I have moved around a fair bit, having grown up in Anglesey, Wales, before living in London, Italy, and Brussels, and am now settled on the South Coast. I find new places and the lives and people they bring stimulating. I love the sea, dogs, jazz, and swimming. I became a counsellor having become jaded with my previous work in government policy, facing my own mental health challenges, alongside a deep desire to help people find a way to live in challenging times and to help them find and love themselves.

I expect you may have questions about how to use counselling, what I am offering, etc. I am more than happy to answer any questions that you have and do feel free to message me.

If what you read here fits with what you'd like from counselling and a counsellor, I look forward to hearing from you.
