About me
As a qualified and experienced Integrative Psychotherapist I offer my clients a calm, friendly, confidential and therapeutic environment. My professional support is provided in a genuine and non-judgmental way which creates an opportunity for you to talk through your difficulties.
I believe we all have the capacity to change and improve our situation. I also believe that with professional support you can find ways of coping which in turn will help you to move forward.
My approach is one that prioritises your needs; puts our therapeutic relationship at the heart of our alliance and encompasses a range of diverse but appropriate techniques within a model of integration.
At my clinic in Pickering I provide a confidential and supportive place to talk through your issues. I will pay close attention to what you say so that I can understand your situation and see things from your point of view. My training is in Integrative Psychotherapy, which enables me to adopt an approach directly suited to your needs. I can work with you on a short term basis (two to six months), or longer if appropriate.
Example of issues I have worked with include: loss and bereavement, anxiety, depression, marital or relationship difficulties, childhood trauma, PTSD, acute stress disorder, lack of confidence or self-worth, self harm, sexual problems and problems with drugs or alcohol.
A couple of comments received from my clients:
"For the first time in 40 years, on the anniversary of my best friends death, I can celebrate the time we had together and not kill myself over what happened and why!! That's down to you and the help you gave me!! Thank you so much!!!!"
"Thanks is a small word especially when you put me back together. Thank you. Forever grateful."
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified, UKCP Registered Integrative Psychotherapist. I completed my training with the Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute (SCPTI) having previously undertaken Counselling Studies receiving certification at level 3 by the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB).
In addition to my private practice in Pickering I have been part of a team that provided counselling support to individuals in the Bridlington area. Referrals were received from the medical profession including the local Mental Health Team. I have worked with individuals, a large percentage being men, who have been experiencing a range of personal issues including: stress, depression, loss, bereavement, trauma, low self esteem and anger.
In previous work environments I have gained experience in such issues as safeguarding, abuse, special needs and behaviour associated with complex needs.
I am Accredited and Registered with UKCP and a Member of SCPTI.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
