Janine Kane MA Integrative Psychotherapist and Supervisor
I believe in the tenacity of the human spirit to heal itself and I am passionate about offering a space for you to come - just as you are - and together we will support and nurture that process.
Sometimes the approach we use to survive a difficult experience in childhood or a traumatic incident can become locked in our system and long after the difficulty has passed we continue to use this approach, which can now limit us. Instead of thriving, we are locked in surviving. Psychotherapy can unlock these patterns and help us refocus.
My experience has been that people come and feel safe to share what is on their minds, in their hearts, their bodies and in their soul. It is a process that can take time and I encourage you to approach whatever you bring with a spirit of kindness and curiosity towards yourself as to how you came to be as you are now. Sometimes your response will be quick, surprising and releasing, at other times there is a growing realisation of piecing bits together to create a unified story which will feel right to you.
Whatever is troubling you, or someone you care about, is important or you wouldn't be looking at this website. Sometimes talking with someone who is not directly involved gives you a greater freedom to risk being open to all of your experiences and can bring you a different perspective and new way of thinking/feeling/behaving about your troubles.
I can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself so you can make the changes you would like. I do this through active listening, reflection and sharing thoughts that arise to support our work together. I work in a collaborative way and welcome your feedback to enable the work to progress so that you receive what you need at your own pace.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have 25 year's experience of working 1:1 with adults in private practice and have worked for the emergency services and currently work as a student counsellor at a University.

UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Early trauma, at birth or when very young. There can be a "felt" sense in the body of something being wrong but it is difficult to find the words to communicate what it is.
I offer an initial consultation of 1.5 hours at a reduced fee for us to get to know each other and see if we choose to work together. Sometimes we need longer to make that decision.
If we say yes to one another I would then enter into a therapeutic relationship with you, using the skills and knowledge I have to be with you and listen to you with warmth and gentleness.
I offer short term and long term/opened work to suit your needs.
I work in Chichester close by the train and bus station and offer 50 minute weekly sessions at a cost of £55.
I have, on occasion, negotiated a reduction in fees in certain circumstances. Please ask.
Please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to talk with you on the phone about anything I have written.
