About me

Hi, I'm Janette, it's great you've found my profile. I often find that people feel the thought of purely Talking Therapy is scary, or too intensive, and so I offer a creative model of Therapy which often feels less so. Sometimes a person does not have the words to express what they're feeling or experiencing but through using a range of art materials, clients often find it easier to access and process their thoughts, feelings and experiences. It doesn't require any skill in art, as it's more about the process than in producing a 'masterpiece'.

Training, qualifications & experience

I'm an HCPC registered Art Therapist, with a BA (Honours) Degree in Psychology and a Masters's Degree in Art Psychotherapy. I'm a Member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and I adhere to the HCPC and BAAT standards of Professional conduct.

I have several years of experience in various schools in the North Yorkshire area, working in an holistic way with Children and their Families, young people and adults of all ages. Alongside this work I run a private Art Therapy Practice on the outskirts of Harrogate, with easy access to Ripon, Knaresborough, York and the surrounding areas.

I have experience working specifically as a Bereavement Counsellor, Couples Counsellor, and Domestic Violence Counsellor and ongoing experience of working with Individuals and small groups with a wide range of presenting issues.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
