About me

I offer a confidential and non-judgemental environment in a peaceful and supportive setting. I am a caring and approachable person able to listen and empathise and will help you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, working with you to gain a better understanding of yourself and your situation. Through regular counselling sessions many people have shared their worries, concerns, and hopes and fears, feeling helped to address their difficulties and issues. I work alongside clients helping to develop their own inner resources and find alternative ways of coping.

I practice integrative counselling, combining various counselling approaches working with the present and the past adapting to the needs of the individual person. I work collaboratively focussing on each person as a unique, whole individual, enabling people to make effective changes, helping them to feel stronger and more empowered.

I offer short term, long term and time-limited face to face, on line and telephone counselling sessions depending on your wishes and needs.

I abide by the B.A.C.P. code of ethics and practice.

Training, qualifications & experience

I gained the Diploma in Counselling in 1994 (Client Centred and Psychodynamic based) and went on to become an accredited and registered member of the 'British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy' (B.A.C.P.) in 2003.

I completed the Adoption Training Course for qualified Counsellors with Barnardos in 2013. As an Approved Adoption Counsellor through Barnardo's (registered to provide adoption placement and support services) I have worked with many people affected by all aspects of adoption.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Foundation Module (2014) and Certificate in Play Specialism (2001) enabled me to gain further knowledge and skills when working with children, adolescents and families.

I have attended many short training courses including child protection, rape and sexual abuse, bereavement in children/young people and adults, anxiety, anger management and C.B.T.

I am a recognised Bupa Counsellor (2020).

For over 20 years I have worked with children, adolescents, families and adults in a variety of settings - Schools, Social Care, Women's Aid, Adoption Charities and in Private Practice - face to face, on line and telephone counselling. I have counselled people with all kinds of difficulties including anxiety, abuse, adoption, depression, relationships, confidence/self-esteem, bereavement, separation and loss.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
