About me

Over time, you may have come to recognise lasting sensations of being overwhelmed, intensely stressed, or feeling ridden with anxiety and self-doubt. You may be silently struggling with extended periods of depression, or feeling particularly fearful and vulnerable. Satisfying the need for direction and purpose may feel challenging right now, particularly if you are struggling to cope with feelings of anger and resentment, all while attempting to navigate through the pressures of everyday life.

Therapy can help to provide you with the understanding and support that is necessary to build and repair connections that may have broken down, or struggled to establish. This might be experienced as difficulties that you have with your own identity and self-worth, feeling disconnected and anxious about the world outside, lacking trust and fulfilment in your personal/social relationships, or living with a pervasive sense of emptiness as you go about your day to day.

Crucially, you no longer want to endure the problems as they are - to avoid things spiralling further, you recognise the benefits of seeking support and have chosen to prioritise yourself and what may be required to begin to restore your health and wellbeing.

What you can expect.

I approach the presenting problem from the perspective and personal experience of the individual. Through careful exploration, people are invited to thoughtfully examine their personal experience of life and living, gaining the clarity and self-compassion that is necessary in order to work through the very challenges that may have led to such discontentment, often marked by feelings of anxiety, disappointment, and loneliness.

Therapy offers the opportunity to mobilise and shift your position, of facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles, to one of reaching tangible hope and progress.

Practice description.

I am a qualified individual & couple's therapist, working with people aged 18 years and over.

Working with a pluralistic framework, my therapeutic approach is based on a philosophical and relational perspective, drawing from various models such as humanistic, cognitive, systemic, psychodynamic, and creative experiential methods. Where it is beneficial, I can also draw from broader mental health and mentorship interventions.

The primary therapeutic objective is to assist people to achieve clarity and change that is meaningful and self-validating. Individuals will be safely supported to unpick and work through the challenges being experienced, with the ultimate goal of identifying and moving towards what it is they truly desire for themselves and in their relationships.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an integrated trauma therapist, mental health practitioner, and mentor, I have over 10 years of experience in health care, education, and third sector services. I am skilled in creating secure and confidential environments, in which I deliver professional and dependable services to a diverse range of people dealing with a wide spectrum of issues, including those affected by trauma and severe distress. Given my cultural sensitivity, I am adept at handling a diverse population and have a demonstrated track record of forming meaningful connections with clients from our initial contact.

I am a qualified couple’s counsellor, registered MBACP, and a member of the Association for Family Therapy. I work with both individuals and couples to provide brief and long-term therapy and tailored specific mentorship.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Testimonials

S - I'm nearly 60 and have spent my whole life not liking myself and feeling unworthy, mostly because of a negative childhood experience. I am now the happiest, most present, and most at peace I have ever been. I can't thank Helen enough. I know this will (is already having!) a positive effect on my children and relationships going forward. I have been to counselling many times over the years and no-one has ever ever got through. This has been the best use of money I have ever spent.

L - Helen was a fantastic counsellor. It was my first time with talking therapy and she really helped me to understand where my anxiety and low mood was coming from. The sessions could be challenging but I feel that Helen really guided me through those difficult feelings. I feel it made a huge difference to my life and how I view myself and my feelings of anxiety that I’ve struggled with as long as I can remember. Helen was always professional, compassionate and set me at ease. I would recommend the service and I would also consider coming back, should I feel the need to return to therapy at some point.

H - The reason for us seeking counselling was to try and repair a total breakdown in our mother and daughter relationship. The first joint session was extremely daunting for us both especially having not seen each other for over a year but Helen put us both at ease immediately. Helen showed us both empathy and objectivity throughout the whole process – never taking sides, always staying calm and in control of the, at times, heated discussions. Helen has enabled us to see the deep rooted, historical issues and events from both our perspectives, while supporting us to understand the impact of our actions and behaviours. This has been an invaluable and an eye-opening experience, one that we have both learnt from thanks to Helen, and her approach to facilitating, what I thought at the time was an impossible situation. Helen has been 100% instrumental in bringing my daughter and me back together and I will never be able to thank her enough.
