About us

We are a not-for-profit organisation providing counselling and talking therapies for individuals, couples, families, young people and local businesses who are seeking mental health and well-being support.

We are proud of our team of highly specialised and qualified therapists who have vast experience in dealing with a whole range of psychological and emotional issues. As a registered charity, we use any surplus generated from our mainstream work and fundraising activities to support individuals financially and enable them to access professional therapy that they would not otherwise be able to afford.

We operate an equal opportunities policy to ensure that therapy can be accessed by all members of our local community, and we welcome those from diverse backgrounds. We provide services in person, online and by telephone.

Please visit our website using the link at the top of this page and book an initial assessment with one of our experienced therapists.

Training, qualifications & experience

At HTC, we believe that nurturing a strong community of therapists is key to the provision of high-quality, sustainable therapeutic services. HTC's thriving therapeutic community enables us to operate as a centre of clinical excellence.

Our diverse range of therapists are spread across four levels, each of which reflects the individual's level of experience and training: Trainee, Graduate, Associate and Senior Associate. All our therapists are registered with a counselling and therapy governing body andr are fully qualified by (or, in the case of our Trainees, are undergoing) a rigorous training programme. We match the needs of each individual with the therapist who is best suited to working with them and who have a thorough understanding of their needs.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
