About me

I offer person centred psychotherapy and counselling to anyone feeling in need of some extra support, or just a space to reflect and process.

My approach is integrative meaning that whilst the core of my way of working is grounded in the humanistic and psychodynamic schools of therapy, I do use other tools as and when they are appropriate and useful.

I can work with a wide range of presenting concerns including depression and anxiety, feeling low, relational problems, as well as bereavement and trauma. In addition, I have extensive experience working with physical health related issues, having previously worked within mental health settings, universities and third sector providers.

My private practice is based in Alwoodley, and I offer a free 20 minute initial phone consultation.

My fee is £60 for a 50 minute session, reduced fees are available for those on low income.

I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) working within their ethical framework and regulations.

I currently only have day time availability for sessions.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, or to arrange an initial telephone chat.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc (Hons) Psychology

MSc Applied Forensic Psychology

MA Psychotherapy and Counselling

As well as working in private practice, I have worked within a student counselling service offering short term counselling and coaching. Previously I have worked for a service supporting individuals who had been diagnosed with a new health condition, using counselling and coaching to work towards mutually agreed goals. During my training as a counsellor I also worked within a substance use residential service, as well as a mental health setting. This has allowed me to fine tune working towards an individual’s needs, regardless of their circumstances, presenting concerns or background.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
