About me

Have you hit a point in your life where thoughts and emotions previously bottled up, need to be looked at? Has the suppression of them started to cause problems in your work or home life? Or have they started to manifest as mental health concerns? If you’ve answered yes to any of the following, then I’d be more than happy to meet with you for a free consultation, to see if I can help.

With so many counsellors to choose between, what’s been proven as most important for effective therapy is the relationship between client and counsellor. This is why I offer a free 45 minute consultation - to get a feel of how working together might look. There’s no obligation, just an opportunity to get to know each other a little.

To that end, here’s a little more about me and what I offer. . .

I work predominantly, but not exclusively with men on a multitude of issues. I know it can be harder for men to disclose their problems and the fear of judgement can be heightened. Asking for help can be the bravest thing you do, and I respect that vulnerability. Whatever you'd like to work on, I offer a commitment to hearing you without judgement and fostering a space where you feel able to share whatever you choose. Your time. Your choice. Change is always possible, and I’ll help you determine how that looks for you. I offer face to face sessions in Newquay and online, telephone and email counselling across the UK.

I Have Lived Experience Of  -

Complex family issues and estrangement, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, trauma of many varieties, grief, loss, abandonment and toxic relationships. The hurdles so many face! Prior to counselling I worked with clients with severe mental health conditions. My passion has always been to help people who want to change and improve their life circumstances. Self-development is such a huge motivator for me. Whilst my varied employment history has been fun and exciting, I never felt a sense of satisfaction or completeness until I started helping clients in therapy. For me, the contentment I get when a client and I part company because they feel so much happier with their life is second to none. I really value this and want to help as many people as I can to achieve it for themselves.

I'm Trained In -

  • Gestalt, CBT, Transpersonal Therapy, Person Centred Theory, IFS, TA
  • Trauma
  • Suicide trained.
  • Counselling tutor

Meaning there’s real versatility with how we can work and I can adapt to best meet your needs. No script, no clichéd responses. I’ve been through the counselling process, and it took me years to find the help I needed, but when I did it was life changing - and why I work in this field today. My journey won’t give you the answers, but it will allow me to support you through yours.

Wellbeing Check-Ins

Designed as an opportunity for you to air things to help prevent the build-up which may lead to depression or debilitating anxiety. I suggest these to be 2 hour sessions at the frequency you determine, typically every 4-8 weeks, or maybe just a 1 off.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Certificate in Trauma Informed Coaching
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills
  • Certificate in ASSIST Applied Suicide Intervention Skills
  • NVQ in Health & Social Care

I also hold certificates in areas such as safeguarding adults, data protection, mental health awareness.

I've been volunteering as a counsellor at a men's wellbeing service. Here I've helped clients come to terms with a range of trauma; working with both victims and perpetrators of both sexual and physical abuse, among other concerns. There are no small problems. If it matters to you, it matters!

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

It's been proven that the element most impacting the effectiveness of therapy, is the relationship between the client and the counsellor. To this end, I offer a free 45 minute consultation. This gives me the opportunity to hear what you are seeking and determine if I think I can meet your needs. For you, it's a chance to get to know me & ask any questions. If we both feel that the chemistry is right, and if I feel I can help, then we can move forward, and if not, you've lost nothing!
