About me

Dr Dorothy Tait (also known as Dr Dot) has over 12 years of experience in the NHS delivering psychological interventions to adults struggling with their mental health.  She is experienced in assessing, understanding and treating a breadth of diagnoses and psychological difficulties, ranging from mild to complex, in various NHS mental health settings around the UK.

Dr Dot regularly works with people who struggle with Complex Trauma, PTSD, Addictions (drug and alcohol use, eating disorders, etc), Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-esteem and Self-confidence, Shyness, Social anxiety, Burnout and Grief / Bereavement.  She has worked in both community settings and psychiatric wards with people experiencing complex and chronic mental health problems, including childhood trauma, interpersonal difficulties, hearing voices, difficulties with emotional regulation, self-harm and suicidal thoughts.

Dot is highly qualified with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from the University of Edinburgh and a Masters in Psychological Therapy from the University of Dundee. Dr Dot delivers therapy remotely, over video call.

Dr Dot spends time individualising care to meet people’s needs in line with their specific difficulties and past experiences to create lasting change.  She strives to create a warm and compassionate environment for people so they feel they can open up, share and collaboratively work with her to reach their personal goals.  She helps individuals to explore and understand why they are struggling in their lives / relationships and they work together to change any unhelpful patterns which are keeping them stuck. She will also help people to develop coping tools which aim to empower and build resilience to create a richer, fuller and more meaningful life.  She draws on a combination of evidence-based psychological therapies, including Schema Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).  She holds accreditation with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Dr Dot delivers workshops within organisations, workplaces and schools.  She also runs outdoor retreats every winter, spring, summer and autumn - please get in touch to find out more.
