About me

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

A Counselling Therapist provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a trained professional about your issues and concerns.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE FIRST SESSION

I offer a free 30 minute introductory session online or via telephone. This is a good opportunity for us both  to assess suitability of Counselling for you. If we both feel that Counselling would be a benefit for you and you feel happy to continue, we will then move to weekly /fortnightly sessions booked in advance at a time suitable for you.

I believe in looking at each and every person as unique and individual, no two people are ever the same therefore I offer an integrative way of counselling to suit all my clients’ needs. I don’t just look at the symptoms and problems but I look at the person holistically, as a whole, lifestyle and patterns of behaviour.

I can offer you my hand, walk with you through difficult times in your life, whether it is anxiety, stress, depression , bereavement, work or relationships issues I can help you to help yourself.

There are times in your life when you feel overwhelmed and just do not know where to turn, sometimes you may feel nobody understands you This is when I can offer you a non-judgmental and safe space to be listened to and supported. I will not give you advice as I believe with a little encouragement the answers are always inside of you. You know yourself better than anyone else but together we can explore any emotions, problems situations and experiences that are holding you back in your life creating more Self- Confidence and Esteem for you.

Together we can work through these issues, enabling you to make changes if you wish to. I believe every single person has the strive to reach full potential to make healthier needed changes to live a more fulfilled life. Get to know yourself better, accept yourself better and love yourself better.

Training and Experience

I am a member of the British Association of counselling and Psychotherapy which means I work to their ethical and professional framework to very high standards.

My main focused therapy is Person-Centred Counselling but, I’m also trained as a Neuro-Linguistic programming Practitioner ,so I can intergrate the two together to allow my clients to get the most out of their sessions. Alongside my therapies, I am also a Reiki Master Teacher/Practitioner and Yoga Teacher which means I can provide mindfulness and meditation practice to help you to become more balanced , focused and peaceful in your life allowing you to feel less stressed and anxious.

I have extensive experience in working with Autism, professionally and personally ,especially Asperger's and women who have been diagnosed with Autism later in their lives. How this affects their lives and also their family. This can cause so much stress, anxiety and depression for them as they have often felt they do not fit into the world and are often mis-understood. Counselling has helped them to express how and why they are feeling like they are and how to move forward in their lives.

I have had years of experience with working on a one-to-one basis for a person with learning disabilities following a brain injury. I provided physical and mental support to enrich and enhance the life of that person.

I previously volunteered for a charity who have referrals from Mindsmatter NHS. This has given me lots of experience in working with all kinds of issues and diversities such as anxiety, depression, bereavement , bipolar relationship difficulties, miscarriages , changing career paths, disabilities and LGBTQ+

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
