About me

Accepting new clients Spring/Summer 2024.

I offer a warm, supportive atmosphere where you can open up, be yourself and explore what really troubles you. My therapy style is non-judgemental, empathic and authentic. Key areas: Anxiety & depression; self-esteem & confidence; ADHD & neurodiversity in general.

You are in charge of the process, and together we'll find solutions tailored to work best for you. The therapy room is a warm, calming space filled with books, art, and two very comfy armchairs and a nice cup of tea. We might even get a visit from my cat Miss Sushi.

I have 35 years experience in mindfulness practices and meditate every day, which is particularly useful for clients working with anxiety, depression, self-esteem and confidence issues.

I'm a cis gay man (pronouns he/him) who has been out for more than 35 years. Of course, I welcome any type of client, but I particularly like working with LGBTQIA+ people.

Get in touch to arrange a free introductory chat and that will give you the chance to see if I feel like a good fit for you. When you're ready, I'm here to listen.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have 35 years of experience in mindfulness and meditation, including extensive experience in daily meditation practice, polyvagal breathing. This is especially helpful in working with anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem & confidence, and anger issues.

Style of Therapy

I like to avoid unnecessary jargon in the therapy room itself, but the theoretical basis of my work is Rogerian person-centred exploration. I bring in moments of insight from Psychodynamic theory; tools for change from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; and elements of Existential Therapy as well as Parts Theory or Configurations. This all follows Dr Clara Hill's Integrative model, drawing on Cooper & Norcross's Inventory of Preferences to shape the therapy for each client's needs. As I say, though, these are the technical
and theoretical terms, but when we're working together I much prefer to talk like a normal person.
