About me

Hello, my name is Dave, I offer a warm therapeutic service for those who wish to explore their emotions and experiences in a safe, compassionate environment.

I have developed my practice across various services throughout the Northwest working with both young people, families and adults. I have valuable practical experience working with trauma, abuse and addiction in a therapeutic setting and understand the importance of fostering a non-judgemental and empathetic relationship with my clients. This allows us to uncover meaning and resilience that you can carry forward and apply to your life.

I work in a person-centred way allowing you to feel in control during the sessions. Often when exploring traumatic events, a person can feel unsafe. I aim to provide a service where these feelings and events can be explored in a compassionate and productive way, taking every step at your own pace and working towards your personal needs. I have a catalogue of Humanistic, Gestalt and CBT interventions that can be used during sessions to help us navigate difficult issues as they arise.

What to Expect

The process of first engaging with counselling can often be daunting, but I aim to make the experience as comfortable as possible. You can either call or email to arrange our first meeting. I offer a free 30 minute session, either face to face or by phone so we can get to know a little about each other and what you’d like from our sessions. Following this, sessions can be arranged weekly or fortnightly to suit your needs.

If you happen to feel unsure about moving forward with me as a counsellor after our initial meeting, I am more than happy to signpost you towards suitable counselling services and private practitioners to help you find something more appropriate.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Along side my counselling work I have worked for 9 years with adults with learning difficulties and complex behavioural needs. I understand the impact supporting loved ones with complex needs can have on families and caregivers and also have an awareness of the broader challenges individuals and their families may face whilst trying to navigating and secure support. Having someone to talk to who is outside of your network and understands these issues can often be a comfort. Please feel welcome to contact me if this feels relevant to you.
