About me

If your thoughts, feelings or behaviour are causing you suffering in some way, you are welcome here.

I’ve listed below some of the mental and emotional challenges that might have led you to this point:

  • You are not feeling yourself – something feels wrong or uneasy.
  • You experience low mood or depression.
  • You are struggling to cope at work or home, feeling anxious, stressed and overwhelmed.
  • You find yourself carrying out harmful habits or addictive behaviour.
  • You are grieving, have lost someone or something of huge importance to you.
  • You have experienced trauma in the past, and as a result you now experience anxiety or other symptoms which negatively impact your life.
  • You are having suicidal thoughts.

However you will have your own words for why you are looking for therapy, and this is what we will work through together – your world as you experience it. Your own experience is what matters, and is what we will explore together and help you process and work through.

Through our sessions together, I will help you process your thoughts and feelings, leading to a sense of relief and clarity as you understand more about why you feel the way you do.

Our therapeutic relationship will provide you with a safe space to explore past experiences that cause you pain and discomfort in the present, and also to work through recent experiences that feel overwhelming and are impacting your day to day wellbeing. You will also have an opportunity to better understand your attachment style and how you relate to others, and in so doing help you enrich and strengthen your own personal relationships.

At the core of my model is the belief that all people have the ability to heal, grow and change, given the right therapeutic environment. When the right conditions are available to us, I believe that we naturally develop a stronger sense of self, clearer boundaries between ourselves and others, and a freedom to experience each moment as it comes, rather than living anxiously in the future or painfully in the past. These are the conditions that I seek to offer you through counselling, enabling you to organically grow and heal from within.

As you experience a therapeutic relationship where you are not judged and are accepted as you are, you receive an opportunity to deepen your sense of self-worth as you discover that your value is not connected to anyone else’s expectations of you, but is found simply in who you are.

We will review regularly to ensure we are working together towards your goals for counselling, and we will both sign a written Working Agreement that describes what we can expect from each other throughout the counselling relationship.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified therapist with experience working with a wide range of mental and emotional health issues including PTSD, living with disabilities, relationship issues, abuse, loss and grief, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a number of different counselling theories including Person Centred Theory, Gestalt, Psychodynamic Theory and Transactional Analysis. I also integrate Kubler-Ross’s theory of grief to help you work through your own grief and loss where relevant to you.

At times I will invite you to work creatively, using writing, art, objects or movement to explore your feelings and experience. This can be a powerful way to express what sometimes can’t be expressed in words, and to connect with your whole self as a way to find wholeness and healing. You don’t need to see yourself as creative for this to help you, you simply need to be open to explore.

You are welcome whatever your stage of life, background, gender, sexuality and religious beliefs. I offer a welcoming relationship in which I seek to see and value you as the individual that you are.

I work mainly with adults, however if you are looking for counselling for a child or young person please do contact me to find out if I am able to offer the counselling support that you are looking for.

I am committed to working in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework which outlines best practice for counselling, including confidentiality, data protection, on-going learning and development and required supervision to practise.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ACC
Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
