About me

I believe that therapy offers a valuable source of both support and healing and has the power to help us live happier and healthier lives.    It can enable us to come to terms with what is happening to us right now or with events and experiences from our past.  It can provide a much needed private space to talk openly about things that matter to us - that perhaps we are unable to share with friends or family.

Whether you are completely new to therapy or returning after a break, starting the process can feel daunting. Finding a therapist that feels right for you is an important decision and so I hope this profile provides a useful introduction.  If you would like more information about me and my work, please email or text  so that we can arrange a free consultation - either in person or via zoom. This will give us a chance to talk together and help us decide about next steps.

There are many reasons why we may decide to start therapy.    Clients have reported struggling with childhood trauma, abuse, anger, addictive behaviours,  bereavement, anxiety,  depression, stress and relationship conflict.  All these issues can cause pain distress and disruption in our daily lives. However, it is important to add that sometimes we don't know exactly what's troubling us.  There can just be a feeling that something's not right. Or - we have already decided we want to change something in our life but need help moving forwards. Wherever you are right now, I am happy to work with you.

I am an experienced therapist with a private practice based in North Devon.  I  am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and am fully insured .  I currently have an office base near Bideford where I offer face to face therapy and I also provide online therapy using the Zoom platform.

Before setting up my practice, I worked as a counsellor for Survivors Alliance North Devon (SAND) working with people who have suffered sexual and domestic abuse and violence and also for a local family centre.

I also have over 25 years of experience of working therapeutically with people experiencing  a range of challenges and difficulties and have worked for both statutory and community organisations including as a probation officer, group work facilitator, an independent domestic violence advisor and support worker.

As an integrative counsellor I use a range of therapeutic approaches that allows me to work in a flexible and creative way so that I can respond to your unique needs and concerns .   Integrative therapy is particularly focused on exploring the relationships we have with ourselves and with others.  My focus and attention is on developing a genuine therapeutic alliance with you,  one that will enable us to work together effectively so that you can find your own way towards living more fully and freely.  By developing self awareness and understanding and by bringing compassion to the challenges that we have survived,   therapy can build our sense of strength, resilience and trust in our selves.

If you would like to book a free consultation,  please  text  me on 07980140685 or email me on c.dare528@btinternet.com.   I work Monday to Friday and offer evening appointments throughout the working week.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
