About me

Hello and thank you for visiting my profile. I wonder if you are looking for a safe and supportive space to explore your thoughts and feelings? I am a BACP accredited counsellor and I work in a collaborative and non-judgemental way – giving you space to offload, discuss things which have happened recently and/or in the past as well as current life changes and challenges. I hope you will find that talking in this way helps you to gain awareness and a deeper understanding which may make life more manageable. I work both short and long term - online and in person near Andover in Hampshire.

I have a Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling based on Transactional Analysis which means that I work with the belief that we all have the capacity to grow and change. Together we can explore how the thoughts, feelings and beliefs which formed in your past may be making it difficult for you to make changes in the present. Perhaps you feel stuck and your usual coping strategies aren’t helping but you can’t work out how to do things differently… This may be impacting your relationships with family, friends and colleagues and together we can identify and try out alternative ways of responding to situations and interacting with others.

Over the past 10 years, I have worked in a variety of settings – including a university counselling service and online with frontline NHS staff - helping people with a wide range of issues including anxiety, low mood, burnout, anger, grief and self-harm. Since my initial training, I have attended many different workshops and continue to integrate different ways of working. The most important thing for me is to build a rapport and to work together to identify what works best for you - for example, if I think it might be helpful, I share information about the brain, the body and the nervous system – including strategies for managing anxiety.

If you would like to find out more, please do get in touch by email and we can arrange a short phone conversation where we can discuss what brings you to counselling now and how I may be able to help. If you would then like to try working together, we will find a mutually convenient time for a first session.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

Sessions last for one hour and an individual session is £55. The overall number of sessions will depend on the nature of what you wish to explore and the pace at which you feel comfortable to work. When we meet, we can discuss what feels right for you and we can review our arrangement at any time. When either of us feels it is appropriate, we will discuss ending and where possible, we will work towards a planned ending. It is often helpful to reflect on the work we have done to consolidate awareness gained, changes made and strategies for continuing the process after sessions have ended.
