About me

Do you struggle with low self-esteem or feel that you’re not good enough ? Do you tend to focus on others, their needs and forget your own ? Perhaps you are finding a particular situation or life event overwhelming ? You might not be able to pinpoint what exactly is bothering you, but you want clarity and to be able to make positive changes in your life.

I believe that having a place to talk freely about our worries, without feeling any judgment or expectations enables us to gain awareness and changes happen. We will discover together any underlying causes, how you can relate better to others and overcome any negative or unhelpful patterns that are making you feel stuck.

I offer gentle, accepting listening so that you feel heard and understood, whatever you need to explore. I will work with you in a collaborative, down to earth and compassionate way. I work intuitively, tailoring the sessions to your needs, often with humour and always with kindness.

Training, qualifications & experience

I was born and bred in Yorkshire and  lived  France for over 35 years before relocating back to the UK. My own struggles and difficulties led me to counselling which in turn sparked a desire to help others to understand themselves and make changes for the better. I believe we all have an innate capacity to grow and reach our potential in the right supportive environment.

I have a wide and varied experience both professionally and personally. I worked in the corporate world of international marketing before retraining as a counsellor in France over 12 years ago. I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). Alongside my private practice I am a counsellor with a specialist counselling charity for survivors of sexual trauma. I hold an Enhanced DBS.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
