About me

How I Work - Counselling and Psychotherapy:-

Life can evoke a variety of emotions and struggles. I always work with my clients and think it’s important for you to hold onto the fact that you know yourself better than anyone. I work with the clients in Kent, London, Sussex and across the country remotely. Alongside my practice as a therapist I enjoy running CPD training events in corporate companies and work for an Employee Assistance Programme.

I care passionately about the needs of my clients in order to empower you to move forwards in your life wherever you path is currently at. I am aware that reaching out and finding the right therapist for you can be a daunting process. When searching for the right person to work with, it may be useful to consider the approach therapists use, does their availability work for you, do they hold an appropriate license, and if you are looking for support in a specific area does the therapist have experience in that area?

Why You May Be Searching For A Therapist

It is very brave to take the first and reach out, a lot of individuals find this the hardest step. Life is sometimes full of difficulties and uncertainties, we can feel overwhelmed by stress, loss, addictions, problems in our workplace or home life to name a few. One of these may be the reason you find yourself on my page today. I can work with you without often the long waiting lists of the NHS. I offer both counselling generally shorter term and psychotherapy to enable you to understand yourself on a deeper level, improve emotional intelligence and move forwards from wherever you are to support you and aid you to finding the answers within. Clients come to see me with a range of issues including but not limited to; depression, burnout, stress management, panic attacks, generalised anxiety disorders, body dysmorphia, marriage/relationship problems, eating disorders, anxiety, anger problems, gender issues including those transitioning to the opposite birth sex, childhood trauma, rape, adult trauma, living with a mental health diagnosis or awaiting a psychological referral. Furthermore, I work with clients confidence issues, redundancy, those in foster care or foster career families, domestic abuse and work related stress.

Supporting Those With Complex Mental Health

I also work with clients with an array of complex mental health diagnoses such as Borderline Personality Disorder also known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (EUPD), Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders and Eating Disorders such as Anorexia and Bulimia Nervosa. I have good connections to local Psychiatrists and other support organisations should you need these alongside therapy, for example if you would like to change medication. I always work with the individual and how you experience your mental health as this will be different and unique for each person. For some your diagnosis may be helpful to you and for other individuals this can be very traumatic and viewed as unhelpful. For those with recent diagnoses and living with lifelong mental health, I will empower you and help you to see yourself and to thrive and reach your personal potential or life goals, instead of perhaps the sense of surviving which can often occur when life is stressful or with a recent diagnosis or unwell period.

Couples Therapy

Are you a couple who feel you have lost your way and are not enjoying each other as you once did? Are you unable to communicate, be heard or perhaps don’t feel fully seen? Maybe you are trying to get over an infidelity, or perhaps one of you is dealing with a big life event, health problem or finding it difficult to  support each other. Maybe there are problems and stresses of raising a family or different cultural or religious view points? Is there limited intimacy, or is your sex life not where you would like it to be?

There are so many reasons why couples seek relationship therapy. With the right support you can often find a new lease of life in your partnership or marriage.

Sadly sometimes couples decide to part ways and seek help in finding an amicable ending. I can offer support through this difficult time or divorce negotiation period. In couples therapy I will be there to facilitate and help improve communication, giving you both the space to be heard. I will remain neutral and non-biased, helping you both feel valued, heard and respected.

Problems can occur at any stage in any relationship whether you are in your twenties or seventies. Maybe you don’t feel heard fully by your partner or are struggling to communicate? With the right support you can often find a new lease of life in your partnership or marriage. Sadly some couples decide to part ways and seek help in finding an amicable ending. I can also offer support through this difficult time or through divorce proceedings and negotiations.

I am here to empower you as an individual and as a couple in finding the right changes for you both. You may look at my photo and think I don’t have experience of a 30 year marriage which I don’t to date however I can assure you I have lots of life experience in regards to relationships and difficulties that can arise in relationships.

I ensure all parties are heard and remain neutral and non-biased, helping you feel respected and held at all times. I work with couples who are going through IVF,  loss of a child, hurt from affairs, sex problems, exploring an open relationship and dealing with conflicts to name a few. I also enjoy working and supporting couples on sex differences, intimacy, and couples who want to enhance their sex life and passion in the bedroom.  I work with same sex couples as well as couples from the LGBT community. I feel passionately about understanding our sexual needs and desires and allowing ourselves to be whoever we wish to be in relation to ourselves and others.

About Myself And My Working Approach

I can assure you I will walk your path with you with great care, compassion, understanding, and most importantly at your own pace whether this is in individual counselling or couples therapy.

As well as my private practice I currently work for an employee assistance programme. I have worked for several Universities and have also worked at MIND and an educational college with both teenagers and adults. I am integrative practitioner and have an extensive knowledge of a wide range of approaches. My work includes several psychological theories including the Psychodynamic approach, Humanistic & Person Centred approach. I also where appropriate draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the Existential Approach. I feel privileged to have trained integratively as I feel passionately about the uniqueness of each individual. One style of therapy may be suitable for you but not as much for another individual. Being an integrative practitioner, I can ensure that the therapeutic approach is flexible to suit your needs. I believe that each individual is unique and that you know yourself best.

I work alongside you in a non-judgemental, friendly approach to nurture and empower you in facing battles, working through complex issues, increasing self-awareness, utilising, and recognising your potential and strengths and setting goals for the future. It can be difficult to understand the root cause of your problems and I work alongside my clients in a holistic manner and safe environment to help facilitate this.

Thank you for taking your time to read my profile and please do get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange an initial free consultation appointment.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Accredited BACP member. I have met BACP and NHS educational standards having trained at the only counselling and psychotherapy training centre based within the NHS which trains students to BACP accredited standard. I abide by the BACP code of ethics and conducts at all times whilst offering individual Counselling and Psychotherapy.

  • Certificate of Higher Education in Primary Education from Canterbury Christ Church University
  • Qualified Mental Health First Aider (MHFA)

I am a qualified REWIND practitioner (IARTT International Association For Rewind Trauma Therapy) which is internationally recognised to treat PTSD and trauma. This doesn't involve disclosure of the trauma and also minimises the risk of being re traumatised.  The Rewind technique offers a way of permanently stopping the involuntary recall by filing the traumatic event so it comes under control. The voluntary recall remains. For single trauma events two to three sessions are required and for multiple event traumas such as sexual abuse, domestic violence, combat each traumatic event can be dealt with separately over separate sessions. In some cases depending on the way the involuntary recall presents this can be dealt with in 2-3 sessions.  Please contact me for more information.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
