About me

Why get counselling?

We all of us face painful challenges from time to time - It's part of being human. Counselling helps guide us through difficult times and allows us to disentangle and process events, thoughts and feelings in ways harder to do with friends and family alone.

Counselling offers a regular, safe and confidential space, within a secure therapeutic relationship, to collaboratively explore your situation and put you back into the driving seat of your life.

I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist working from my private practice in West End, Esher where I offer long or short term work, face to face or online sessions.

I understand therapy can feel daunting, to some, but my warm, down to earth approach, and peaceful garden setting, aims to rapidly put you at ease as we explore your situation together.

What should I expect from counselling?

Counselling is a process that aims to promote fresh perspectives, self-awareness and understanding of the various 'parts' of us that can sometimes feel contradictory, overwhelming and confusing. The process allows you to move through your current situation more clearly towards becoming, more fully, YOU again!

The quality of the therapeutic relationship is central to successful outcome so it's important to find a counsellor you're comfortable with.

 My Background

I come from a creative background working as an actor for 30 years prior to completing my Psychotherapy MA. Prior to that I was a veterinary nurse and a Physical therapist.

I have worked with wide ranging issues over my career as a therapist.

My internships were within Hospice settings so I also have extensive experience working with loss and illness.

My Therapeutic approach

As an integrative, relational therapist I value the quality of the therapeutic relationship and believe warmth, empathy and unconditional understanding provides the bedrock for healing and change.

My core approaches are psychodynamic, Person Centred and Existential.

I also draw from a wider range of models including, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal, EMDR and Internal Family Systems to ensure we find the best ways of working with your individual needs. These models  combine Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Neuroscience and Mindfulness based therapies.

We begin by exploring your immediate situation. However, it's often helpful to look at how past patterns and behaviours might be affecting your current situation.

I work holistically with an emphasis on the relationship between mind and body. A mind-body approach helps transform outmoded patterns and promotes deeper levels of healing.

I regularly undertake Continuous Personal Development workshops and training, and attend supervision, to maintain good standards of practice.

I adhere to the BACP's ethical framework that includes total commitment to confidentiality and respect of my clients' diverse and individual needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
