About me

Admitting you need emotional support can be hard. Some people may feel like a failure, as they see it as admitting they have a problem.  However, I see it as a strength as I know this can be really difficult for some people to realise.  It is the first huge step towards making things better.

My name is Amanda and I am an Integrative Counsellor.  The main approach I use is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), however, I will also use psychodynamic and person-centred therapy if I feel it will benefit the client and the counselling process. I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgmental, environment for you to feel comfortable to be open and honest with me. CBT is short term and goal focussed which encourages you, with my support, to set your own goals to achieve. My personal and professional experience contributes to my success as a Counsellor as I have the ability to offer full empathy and a non-judgemental attitude.

Counselling can help with a number of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress,  panic attacks, phobias, lack of self-esteem, self-confidence, as well as relationship, work or family conflict. It can also support you if you are struggling with a bereavement, personal crisis or a difficult life transition. If you are considering having some counselling sessions, it is nothing to feel embarrassed about. People of all ages, backgrounds and from different walks of life seek and benefit from counselling.

Sometimes when we are not feeling ourselves, and we experience uncomfortable feelings, the easy option can be to ignore it and hope it goes away.  Unfortunately, by doing this and not addressing the issue, it could get worse and your situation could escalate into a bigger problem.

The relationship between you and your counsellor is key to your success.  You have to feel comfortable in the counselling environment, in order for you to be able to share your thoughts and feelings and talk about anything you feel is relevant, however painful.  I feel my down to earth personality is often what makes clients feel at ease straight away.  I appreciate counselling can be daunting to people who haven't done it before, that is why I do everything I can to make you feel at ease.
So if you feel you need to talk to someone, please call me and we can discuss if counselling could be something that will help you.
My main practice is based in Bromley, however, I also practice in Biggin Hill and Tatsfield. I suggest the initial assessment takes place at one of my practices, theresfter, I can accommodate home visits for further sessions which will include an additional fee.
I am a Registered MBACP member, and I adhere to the BACP policies and guidelines.

Training, qualifications & experience

I achieved a Higher National Diploma in Integrative Counselling in 2003.  I have worked in, and received referrals from GP surgeries. I have also had referrals from Employee Assistance Programmes (including the Prison Service and Transport for London). I have counselled children in schools, worked with the Government run project SureStart counselling mums in the local area, and I have received referrals from various other agencies.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
