About me
BABCP Accredited (ref: 00000999812)
Just need to feel heard? Without worrying about how it sounds or fear of judgement or unwanted unhelpful advice? So often we worry that how we feel `sounds like am being selfish` or `this is so stupid that I worry about....` but our feelings are just feelings not good or bad, just feelings. Counselling can help improve general well-being and often how we feel about ourselves and others. Being able to be ourselves, feel safe and present can change your life in my experience. I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in Chryston, and Remotely online using safe video platforms which are easily accessible.
CBT looks at how our Cognitions (or thoughts/images) and Behaviours (what we do or don't do) can affect how we feel. I decided to train in CBT several years ago as I wanted to find an effective way of working with people which would help improve their lives and I felt that CBT could do that. I worked for over 20 years within Social Care mostly with Young People and Families and gained valuable experience, skills and training.
I often work with Difficult Menopause Symptoms; Male and Paternal Mental Health; Low Self Esteem; Social Anxiety; Panic Attacks; Depression; Attachment and Parenting concerns; Relationship issues/breakdown including Separation; Life after Divorce; Boarding School Syndrome; Care Experienced and Adverse Childhood Experiences and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I've recently gained more experience of working with 'traumatic experiences' which sometimes develop into PTSD. These experiences are not time limited and are from a range of experiences and as someone said to me recently 'trauma is in the eye of the beholder', meaning if it felt bad for you and still affects you then it was traumatic and this is not for others to decide. These experiences can be emotional and upsetting to work with but the benefits in my experience outweigh this as the treatment then becomes more about the present and reclaiming your life:)
I gained funding for and manage a Free CBT and Wellbeing Group for males over 16 within the Coatbridge area. This aims to improve Men`s lives and those around them. This is a valuable area of my work which i feel makes use of my many years working within social care and as therapist as I understood the need for this service.
If I do not think that I am the right person to help you then i can often recommend another therapist who can. My priority would always be that you receive the most effective and accessible treatment.
CBT is collaborative so we work together on an agreed treatment plan and this is regularly reviewed to ensure therapy is tailored to suit your needs. A minimum of 6 sessions is recommended in order to gain any lasting change and most clients have around 10-14 sessions. I am open to working flexibly with clients in order to make therapy accessible.
I gained what`s now called `First Level Accreditation` with BABCP in April 2023 and maintain good practice by having regular supervision and completing further learning and development related to my work as a CBT Therapist which is required by BABCP. I am insured and have regular Disclosure Checks as a self employed CBT Therapist and you can ask to see evidence of this if wished.
Client confidentiality and safe ethical working are very important to me.
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I normally get a chat with potential new clients on the phone which gives you a chance to ask any questions and to help uou make the right decision about working with me or not. I won't be offended at all if you don't wish to take it any further as I feel positive about CBT and sharing information about it.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
