About me

Hello, my name is Aaron Thorpe.

I am a MBACP/ACC MA qualified counsellor who has been working relationally with people for over 20 years in various settings and employment.

Working relationally simply means that I believe that developing a high quality therapeutic relationship is the key factor to helping clients understand and improve themselves and their behaviour.

I believe that most of our problems are rooted in a disrupted relational experience that produces a internal narrative that causes us to feel and see our lives in a restrictive and often damaging way, which leads to feeling undervalued, unworthy, stressed, anxious and confused. This in turn affects the way we allow others to treat us.

Understanding and changing this narrative  is key to unlocking many issues that have held our lives back.

My knowledge and understanding of brain development, linked to early developed attachment disorder, internal family systems, person centred and psychodynamic theory have given me a developed understanding of how past traumas affects our lived experience.

We all want to feel safe, but for many people this feeling of safety feels elusive, transitory or even non existent. Feelings of anxiety and disconnection bring a sense of confusion and uncertainty about life.

We know in our logical mind that we are okay but something within us feels unsafe, unsure and even threatening.

This disparity can lead us to feeling helpless and confused.

Using a relational model and drawing on various theoretical approaches I will help you explore and discover your true self.

I will give you practical steps that you can apply to your own life.

By creating a safe and secure relationship, I can help you regain a sense of control and direction over your life.

My aim is to create a space where you feel accepted, genuinely heard, and not judged and valued for who you are.

Most importantly, I want to see you thrive in new ways. My belief is that you have the ability to flourish and I would be privileged to be a part of that journey with you. If you would like to know more please do not hesitate to email me for availability.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
