About me

About Me
My name is Aaron Thorpe, and I am a MBACP, MA qualified counsellor with over 20 years experience working with a variety of people as a therapist, teacher, coach and mentor.

I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you feel genuinely valued, heard, and seen, without judgment.

My Approach

Human beings exists within stories. These stories come from our family, community and society. These stories create ways of thinking and beliefs within us such as , how we should speak, what questions we should and shouldn't ask, who matters, how to behave, what to believe, our value and even what Job we should do. Over time our relationship to these stories can create a perception within us that somehow we are not good enough, we don't fit in, we aren't clever enough or that we lack the ability to achieve certain things.

These 'stories' patterns and beliefs become the dominant feature of how we behave and act (take on role). This can produce negative ideas and beliefs about our own worth and value, that leaves people feeling unsupported and powerless. We can begin to feel we have very little control over our life and this takes away our energy, hope and healthy sense of identity. By working with me, I can help you notice, recognise, and change these beliefs and patterns, so you can move beyond limiting beliefs and begin to relate to yourself and others in a much more confident and healthy way.

My goal is to help you understand and transform these narratives, develop your confidence and establish clear boundaries with yourself and others. Using relational therapy, key tools, and evidence-based approaches, I’ll support you in building greater confidence to fully be the person you want to be.

What to Expect
Therapy with me is about more than addressing symptoms—it’s about creating a radical shift in how you see yourself and your life. While the journey may not always be easy, the rewards are transformative. You’ll uncover a deeper sense of self-worth, strengthen your relationships, and design a life that feels more whole, balanced, and fulfilling.

Next Steps
If you’re ready to explore this journey, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Please feel free to email me to discuss availability or ask any questions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have an MA in Integrative Counselling and am a member of the BACP. I have a relational approach to therapy.

This means that the beliefs and feelings we develop about ourselves early in life have a huge influence on how we not only think about ourselves but also determine how we expect others to treat us.

I will help you let go of unhelpful and negative self beliefs and give you the tools to become your own ally and cheerleader so you can move forward with confidence and self belief.

As you develop a more compassionate, motivating and empowering understanding belief about yourself, you will begin to move forward, dealing more confidently with the challenges of life.  If your anxious, avoidant, low in confidence or struggle to develop healthy relationships, I can help you move forward.

I want to give you the tools, to access the courage within and experience the joy of being able to connect with yourself and others. Of course it will be challenging but over time the rewards will far outweigh the challenges and I will support you every step of the way.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
