About me

I am a qualified BACP/UKCP Accredited counsellor with experience in working with adults, couples, children and young people focusing on a range of issues.  I am able to offer time and space to explore any concerns that you may be experiencing in a safe, supportive, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

Sometimes life events can be overwhelming, and it can be hard to talk to friends and families about what you might be going through and how this makes you feel. Counselling can help you make sense of self, gives you choices to reach acceptance and make changes, and rekindle a sense of self-worth.

Trying to find a therapist can daunting, and bearing that in the mind, at our first session, together we can decide whether, or not, you feel we can work together.  I believe that developing a positive relationship is the key to the healing process. I work from home and aim to bring a sense of genuineness and authenticity into the counselling room.

I am not at liberty to tell you what to do or how to behave but work collaboratively with you to explore your own solutions. I believe that everyone has the ability to develop and change, and to find the inner resources that you may have lost.

The approaches I have been trained in are Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.  With these approaches, together with self-exploration and reflection, we can work together to enhance self-belief and make positive changes.

I am also a qualified Person-Centred Supervisor but can work collaboratively with other approaches. I offer special rates for students and groups.

Working with Aspergers Clients

I have experience in working with adults, couples, families, young people and children for over 20 years on various issues and worked within private and educational settings.

I volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Charity (both as a counsellor and supervisor) for over 15 years.  I offered 1-1 support to clients who have experienced a significant loss and bereavement.  As a supervisor, I supported volunteering and training counsellors.  I was also a Trainer for the charity for over 3 years.

I have many years' experiences working collaboratively with individuals, groups, schools and other settings, such as CAMHS/GP services, in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, supporting children, young people and families during transition, school refusing and other issues.  I am also an approved provider for BUPA and other Health Insurance companies.

I worked for 9 years within a large secondary school as a Lead Counsellor and managed a team of counsellors, including counsellors in training.  I provided mental health psycho-education programmes and with key staff and school health nurse developed the service to meet the needs of the students and staff.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

The areas of counselling indicated are not exhaustive – what is troubling you may not be there.  This does not matter; you do not have to fit neatly in a category.  As is often the case, once working together has begun, issues not previously accounted for can be uncovered.

If something is affecting you the way you do not like, then you may benefit from counselling.
