About me

I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience in helping and empowering both individuals and couples to resolve problems, difficulties and issues that are impacting on their lives. I offer a confidential, safe and professional service and am based in Hove, Sussex. I am accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC), which means that I abide by their code of conduct and ethical guidelines. I have over 17 years experience in the field of applied psychology. Throughout my employment to date, I have worked within the private sector, NHS and also for several years as a counsellor for one of the major EAP health providers, namely Bupa Psychological Services.

My work focuses on providing psychological therapy with the aim of exploring underlying issues to help empower individuals or couples to work towards positive change. I am experienced in working on a broad area of issues including stress and anger management; anxiety and depression; relationship issues; domestic violence; childhood sexual abuse; trauma; addictions; phobias; postnatal depression; low self-esteem; low self-confidence; sexual issues; bullying; work related issues; sexuality issues; self harm; personality disorders; post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); eating issues and lifestyle issues such as personal development/growth.

I use an integrative approach drawing on such therapeutic models as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic; Person-centred; Transpersonal, Existential, Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt.

I understand that as you may be entering unknown territory your first session with me will be one of you having the time and space to explain about your reasons for seeking assistance so that I can assess your issues and gain a more in-depth understanding of how I may be able to help you. Many individuals feel anxious with this first step and it will be my aim to make sure that this initial session is as comfortable as possible so that you can experience what it might be like to work with me. It is hoped that by the end of the first session you will feel supported and understood and will have gained a sense of whether you would like to continue working with me or alternatively to go away and have a think about it.

As a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, my aim is to assist individuals/couples to make decisions for themselves, to improve their sense of personal wellbeing and to alleviate distress. My work is concerned with the application of psychological theories and techniques to help people deal with everyday problems associated with life events.

I offer both short-term (6-12 sessions) or more open-ended therapy.
