About me

Welcome to Golowhe Therapy. Golowhe is a Cornish word meaning ‘to glow’, ‘to light up’, ‘to illuminate’, ‘to shine’… I believe we all have the ability to shine, and sometimes we need support to find the light again in the darkness.

My name is Ysella (also known as Izzey) and as a qualified counsellor trained in the person-centred approach, I place you, the client, at the heart of all decision-making because I trust it is only you who holds the key to all the answers, and it is only you who can unlock these to achieve your true potential.

With over a decade of experience working with and in the outdoors in a variety of woodland & educational settings, I can offer sessions in person and online, along with the opportunity to use nature and the outdoors to facilitate our relationship, such as 'Walk and Talk' sessions and ecotherapy opportunities.
I work with individuals (adults, teens, young people) and groups.

Each session is unique, being informed by you as to what interests, needs or pace might be required. You can email or enquire via my website to decide whether this will be meeting your needs and expectations, and how we can begin our journey together. Thank you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • I am a fully qualified counsellor - Level 5 Diploma in Person Centred Counselling and Therapy (University of Plymouth)
  • I am a registered member of BACP (400893)
  • I have full professional liability insurance and enhanced DBS checked
  • I have a comprehensive list of qualifications, which can be seen on my website

I am continually updating my knowledge and skills to maintain good practice.

I have counselling experience with students of Callywith College and Cornwall College, as well as Pegasus Men’s Well-being Centre CIC covering a wide breadth of subjects and challenges.

I volunteer for Penhaligon’s Friends (a local Cornish children’s bereavement charity) and co-facilitate a support group for Georgia’s Voice - Preventing suicide in young women aged 18-25 in Cornwall.

I continue to work in the outdoors with over a decade’s experience in a variety of roles including a Forest School leader, conservationist, volunteer and funding coordinator, and mentor.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I believe that we are all unique and therefore sometimes we do not fit into a ‘box’ or ‘category’. If there is something else that you feel hasn’t been identified or perhaps a more generalised reason, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
