About me

Alongside my private practice, I work for two charities in Manchester - one where I manage the counselling service and provide counselling for individuals and the other where I carry out counselling sessions for couples.  I am an experienced, warm and friendly humanistic counsellor who works with both individuals and couples and can support you in making changes and improving how you are feeling. My counselling style is open and empathetic.

Depression, stress and anxiety are some of the issues I have a lot of experience supporting people with as well as relationship issues, motivation, communication, health issues, boundary setting, low self esteem, confidence and much more.

I am a registered member of the BACP and work in accordance with BACP's ethical framework. I receive monthly clinical supervision, and I regularly access ongoing professional training. I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore what is worrying or impacting you. I currently work online either by telephone or Teams/Zoom or at my counselling room in Stockport.

My Experience

As mentioned above, alongside my private practice, I work for two organisations in the charity sector. One organisation is a Manchester based relationship counselling service (previously Relate) where I provide individual and couples therapy. The other organisation supports carers, where I am employed as the Counselling Manager and manage the counselling service. I have extensive knowledge of the impact of caring for a loved one with a diagnosis. I have also worked with and supported families who have children with complex needs. I have a keen interest in maternal depression and supporting mothers pre and post pregnancy.

I also have an extensive knowledge of grief and loss and offer bereavement counselling. Grief and loss is a key part of my counselling practice as it connects to many aspects of life - loss of a job, loss of health, loss of a relationship etc.  Loss often leads to anxiety and especially depression.

Couples therapy allows you and your partner equal time in sessions to talk about whatever is troubling you. I work with you to help you understand your partner’s viewpoints and vice versa. The aim is to improve communication. I can help you to work through your relationship issues no matter what stage of your relationship.

My Approach

There are many different reasons people choose to have professional counselling. When we work together, I will work with you to understand your problems and work out a way to best support you. It may be we work together for a handful of sessions or it may be that we work on a longer term basis. I will always be open with you and review with you how we both think the sessions are going and if you need anything else. We decide together how many sessions are appropriate and we review this regularly throughout our time together.

I work with you in a way so you can explore feelings and emotions without judgment. I am non-directive meaning I do not tell you what to do. I work with you to improve your autonomy as I believe you have the ability to make your own decisions and changes. My counselling style is about empowerment.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
