About me

Hi there. I’m Tim and I’m a counsellor based in Reading and Berkshire who offers a safe and relaxed space for you to explore any issues that might be troubling you. I can see clients in person, online/remotely or over the telephone depending on what might work best.

I have always been a good listener who is non-judgmental. Whatever you might be dealing with, whether it is anxiety, depression, loneliness, identity or other issues, having a space to explore which is entirely yours can be really helpful. I work with adult clients from all backgrounds.

Before I trained as a counsellor, I worked in theatre, film and television and this background has helped me develop creative ways to think about life's challenges and the narratives we create about our experiences. At the heart of my work is a deep joy in connecting with people and helping them foster a better understanding of themselves. I also work in the knowledge that many of us live and work in a society and culture that places pressures on us to behave in ways that are often not beneficial to our wellbeing.

I use person-centred and psychodynamic approaches as part of an integrated model which is adapted for the specific needs of the client.

I continue to work with clients at a charity service, exploring a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, coming out, passing, being Trans/non-binary, addiction, living with HIV and intimate relationships. I am GSRD affirming.

When I'm not working with clients I teach on certificate counselling courses, helping prepare those who wish to enter the profession. I also work as a writer, working on non-fiction, writing about mental health, class and sexuality.

Training, qualifications & experience

While training, I worked in two volunteer placements offering counselling support to women and men who had suffered sexual and domestic trauma, helping them explore complex and difficult feelings. I also worked with clients at SupportU, working on issues such as depression, anxiety, minority stress, coming out, living with HIV, Trans and non-binary issues and intimate relationships.

I work privately with all kinds of clients on many issues such as anxiety, depression, identity, work, relationships, trauma, sexuality and gender amongst others.

I also teach those preparing to train as counsellors for CPCAB and Mind Your Health.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
