About me

As a humanistic psychotherapist, I uphold the belief that all experiences and feelings are unique to every individual and that each one of us has the potential to grow and change. My goal is to explore any issues my clients wish to present, together with future goals. My intention is to focus on my client's subjective reality, to really hear how they construct meaning in their world, to be sensitive to the experiences of their "inner" world and to their perception of how they see themselves in relation to others.

What can I help you with?
I offer a broad therapeutic range from:

  • anxiety
  • trauma
  • depression
  • relationship concerns
  • job and economic worries
  • life changes
  • grief
  • stress
  • dependency concerns, relating to gambling, alcohol substance use
  • support for carers
  • life changes
  • personal growth.

I am a Senior Accredited Registered member of BACP, a registered member of BPS with over 13 years experience of the richness and diversity gained in my practice.

The sessions
I offer individual counselling in a safe and professional environment where we can meet for an initial session to discuss your individual needs, concerns and availability for counselling. Together, we will reach a mutual agreement as to whether counselling is right for you at this time. I offer short, medium and long term counselling according to your particular needs. Please do get in contact and I can let you know about appointments that are available.

I work from rooms in Hove easily reachable by car, train and bus. I value highly and abide by the BACP Ethical Framework For Good Practice. I work with different cultural backgrounds, ages and am committed to equal opportunities and ethical mindfulness. I have over 13 years supervised, clinical practice.

What is counselling?
For me, counselling offers a journey of discovery and enlightenment. My way of working as a humanist is to help you to discover how you feel and experience your world. I offer you space to really explore your life and how you feel about the way your path is unfolding. I truly believe that you, as an individual, is a person of worth, with emotional intelligence and you are uniquely your own person. I respect and honour you as being "your own expert" who has offered me an insight into your world. I will walk alongside you and support you on your path of discovery. I offer you fresh eyes, insight and understanding as I listen and hear you unfold your story. I want to offer an oasis for you to explore, reflect and discover how you see, understand and feel about your world as it is today and what, if any, changes you may wish to make at this time.

As a human being, I feel a warmth and genuine care for those brave people who make contact and ask for help in counselling. I genuinely feel that the rewards of being in the position to offer such help is both heart-warming and awe-inspiring. There is connection, joy and untold nurture being able to offer support as a humanistic counsellor to all those people who step up to discover more about their lives and those around them.

As well as my private practice, I currently work with a charity in Brighton, offering counselling to those experiencing the impact of problematic gambling. A key part of our service, includes an increasing client base offered to those Affected Others, who often discover the consequences of the gambling behaviour of someone close to them. I feel a very strong compassion, empathy and desire to help and support clients who come to our agency looking for a lifeline.

As a humanistic counsellor, my aim is to truly understand my clients' priorities, negotiate dialogue, encourage and enable my clients to express their goals, select their tasks and together, choose the methods of therapy best suited to meet their specific needs and goals at this time. My role is to create the conditions for trust, confidence, empowerment, negotiated-dialogue and connect in the room, for my clients to achieve their goals based on their knowledge of self.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
