About me
Hi I’m Shalu, an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am a dedicated and empathic therapist, committed to providing a safe and supportive space for individuals dealing with various challenges. My Integrative approach, drawing on a range of models and theories, reflects an understanding of the uniqueness of each person and their experiences.
What to expect from Counselling
Seeking help is a sign of strength as it can encourage individuals to overcome the stigma often associated with mental health issues. Providing support and instilling hope during challenging times reflects my commitment to helping clients navigate their own individual journeys.
The integrative approach used incorporates self-discovery, reflecting on past experiences and building a strong therapeutic relationship. Helping clients to reconnect their mind and body and empowering them to implement positive changes aligns with a proactive and collaborative approach.
Tailoring sessions to meet each client's specific needs and working towards achieving their goals is my aim. This client-centered approach is fundamental to fostering a sense of control and empowerment by exploring thoughts and feelings.
What I offer
Finding the right fit in counselling is crucial for its effectiveness. I can offer a 20 minute initial consultation, allowing clients to get a sense of my approach and whether it aligns with their needs.
Different individuals require different needs. Some may seek short-term (6-12 sessions) focused therapy for specific issues. Others may require more extended open-ended sessions for deeper exploration.
I can offer therapy partially in Punjabi.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have extensive experience in the Education and Corporate IT sectors. I can demonstrate a broad understanding of the challenges people face in various contexts. This diverse background enables me to relate to individuals from different backgrounds and address a wide range of issues effectively.
My experiences within local charities include engaging with issues such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, relationship issues, substance misuse and domestic abuse.
My education qualifications include :
- BACP Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
- Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
- Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling
- Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
