About me

Hi I’m Shalu an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. My passion is to make a difference by supporting you during these challenging times and giving you hope for a better future.

Whatever difficulties you may be experiencing, through therapy I aim to help you towards feeling better about yourself. As each of us are unique and deal with life events differently, I will use a range of models and theories to support you. I work with different issues such as anxiety, depression, relationships, bereavement and trauma.

What to expect from Counselling

The space I will provide is heartfelt and confidential allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings, in a non-judgmental and empathic way. As you take time out for sessions, you will empower yourself to begin to process, own and understand your feelings. You may currently feel sad, frightened, guilty, shame, anger, loneliness or something else. Whatever events in your life have triggered these feelings they are valid and together we will work through them.

Your counselling journey allows you to go through a process of self-discovery and greater awareness which can lead to change. By exploring your behaviour patterns and reflecting on the past, my aim is for you to be deeply heard and understood.

Together we will form a solid therapeutic relationship, building trust and openness. By reconnecting your mind and body and implementing change, you will begin to feel more control over your life. Sessions are tailored to “your” own personal needs and together we will work towards fulfilling your goals by giving you the tools and insight, hoping for a much better future.

What I offer

Finding the right counsellor for you can be overwhelming. To help with this, you are welcome to contact me for an initial 20 minutes Telephone/Zoom assessment. Here we can discuss your needs and answer any further questions you may have.

Clients have therapy for different reasons. Some may wish to work on a specific difficulty, usually requiring 6-12 sessions. Others may require more open ended sessions requiring deeper exploration and insight.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in the IT and Education Sector for over 20 years supporting colleagues of various cultural backgrounds. Due to increasing demands in education and technology, I have seen a rise mental health issues. My personal motivation is to continue to talk about mental health and make a difference to people’s lives.

I have provided counselling with local charities for clients affected by a wide range of mental health issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, as well as alcohol and drug misuse and domestic abuse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
