About me

I offer an empathetic, supportive, safe and non-judgmental space. You can explore your thoughts, feelings and what matters or is worrying you with someone that is outside of your day-day life. This can bring greater awareness of yourself and your situation and lead to shifts and personal growth.

I can help with a wide range of issues that can cause you to feel distress or stuck. You may choose to work with me in a shorter time period on something that is difficult for you right now. Or you may want to work for longer time in a more in depth way, with time to focus on past issues that are still impacting you. You might not know how you want to work or exactly or what the issue is. I will support you to explore this and we will work together to achieve your goals.

The first step is to make an initial appointment with me. We can discuss your goals and situation. I can give you more information about what would be involved and what may be achievable.  You will be under no obligation or pressure to continue.  You are also welcome to contact me or to talk to me first. All communication with me is strictly confidential.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor (registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy - BACP) and a trainee psychotherapist (UK Council for Psychotherapy -UKCP trainee member). I run a private practice in Millbrook on the Rame Peninsula in East Cornwall. I offer face-to-face sessions in a quiet and confidential location and also sessions online by video call. I work with people from all types of backgrounds, ages, LGBTQI+, ethnicities, genders, abilities and heritages.

I have worked as an Honorary Therapist for Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest and as a counsellor for Counselling for Social Change.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for over 20 years on issues of social justice and climate change, working for organisations, charities and in the public sector. I have developed a deep understanding of issues of stress and burnout as well as juggling work with other priorities. I also understand how social and cultural issues can deeply impact people.

I hold full professional insurance and abide by the ethical principles of the BACP, UKCP and Metanoia Institute.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
