About me

Welcome. I work alongside women at a women's counselling service and provide a warm and safe space for you to share whatever may be troubling you. You might be anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. You might be struggling to make sense of what has happened to you or feel stuck and can't see a way through. You may feel a sense of loss, alone and without direction. Whatever you are feeling, I offer a safe space so you can be truly heard, working at your pace to find a pathway through whatever issues you face. Accepting of whatever you chose to bring to our sessions. With you, by your side in whatever space feels most comfortable to you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I offer

  • Telephone
  • Zoom/online
  • Face to face
  • Walk and talk outdoor therapy

I am very passionate about what I do. I work alongside you, at your pace, listening to whatever issues you choose to bring. I have worked with a wide range of clients, with experience working for a women only counselling service, a GP practice, and two disability services.

I am a fully qualified counsellor and an Accredited and registered member of the BACP (British Association for counselling and psychotherapy).  I am an integrative therapist and I practice using a person centred approach. You will be central to everything we do together. I use tools from other approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), creative therapy, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness and compassion theory depending on what feels right for you.

I offer a free informal 20-30 minute chat, so you can ask any questions and get a feel for what it would be like if you decided to work with me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Face to face counselling room - Central, accessible location, private, lovely,  comfortable safe space. Parking and bicycle racks.
You may feel nervous about working in person after isolating for several months or you may feel ready for that connection. However you feel, there will be no judgement, just a safe space for you. Our counselling room is in a central accessible location. It is very accessible on the ground floor and has toilet facilities. The access is via a private side entrance. There is a Covid secure cleaning policy between clients. This is your space to bring whatever you would like. Clients have shared how comfortable they have felt working with me in this counselling space.

Walk and talk therapy - Central York green location. Safe space. Accessible.
Being outside has proven health benefits and there's something about nature and it's ability to unlock things. A very relaxed approach to therapy in that we are working alongside each other with little direct eye contact. There are several choices of location within the York area where sessions can take place. Done in a socially distanced way walk and talk therapy can feel more comfortable in Covid times. We will work at your pace, just simply talking, but outside, or we can notice and use our environment , whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Zoom counselling - Accessible. Experienced. Non-judgemental.
You may feel self conscious about working over zoom, and in particular might request to meet with the camera off. This is something that has worked well for some clients. I have experienced counselling using zoom across four different placements and in private practice. It has become very popular since the pandemic and has proven to be a very accessible way of working. I have done additional training on zoom counselling and feel very comfortable working in this way. It saves on both travel time and costs. Clients have shared that they have been surprised at how comfortable they have quickly felt working together in this way.

Telephone counselling - Convenient - Equal

You may feel apprehensive about working over the telephone, as many of my previous clients have shared. I am very mindful of this and we work at your pace, finding your safe space. I have experience counselling using the telephone, across four different placements and in private practice. This way of working has provided a flexible and accessible way of working throughout the pandemic. Telephone counselling now feels like a safe and effective ongoing way of working for many clients. I have done additional training on telephone counselling and feel very comfortable working on the telephone. It saves time travelling to a counselling room and transport costs. I am currently working with two blind and partially sighted charities providing telephone counselling. I have also worked for a GP practice, providing patients with a telephone counselling service. I work for a Women's only charity working with clients over the telephone and this has felt very helpful for them. Clients have commented that they feel heard and that they can be themselves without judgement with telephone counselling.

With you, by your side in whatever space feels most comfortable to you.
