About me
I offer counselling sessions to adults and young people via telephone, zoom or in person within the Bromley area. I come from an education background and have 20 years' experience of working in schools.
I aim to provide a safe, empathic, non-directive space to allow you to explore the things that bring meaning to your life and to develop true self-acceptance. Using unconditional positive regard can enable you to overcome the effects of criticism or disapproval from others to lead a more fulfilling life.
My approach is integrative meaning I have been trained in several different modes of therapy. I incorporate humanistic approaches such as person-centred and existential therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy.
I believe we are all different and as such have differing needs and preferences. I aim to tailor my therapeutic approach to each client, individually.
I work within a relational model to journey alongside my clients as they find solutions to their life issues from within themselves. My role is to guide clients as they explore their thoughts, emotions and behaviours to facilitate understanding, growth and transformation. I believe that the quality of the relationship between the counsellor and the client plays a key role in the therapeutic process and outcome.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified, BACP registered counsellor with a L4 diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from the CPCAB.
Previous to this I completed a sociology degree and a PGCE in secondary education. I spent 20 years working in schools teaching and supporting students and staff with communication, stress, resilience and positive social interaction, before focussing on working one-to-one in a more relational way.
I have undertaken additional training in using creative techniques to enable clients to access feelings buried deep in the subconscious and have additional training in working with shame, trauma and disorganised attachment.
I have worked with a wide range of clients of all ages, experiencing a broad spectrum of emotional difficulties and challenging situations and I support clients in long-term, open-ended practice as well as short-term, time-limited therapy.
I have experience helping clients with depression, loss, chronic illness, anxiety, stress, work related issues, low self-esteem and self-worth, identity, life transitions, sadness, relationship issues and emotional regulation.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
