About me

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I offer a warm, open-minded and non-judgemental space for adults to share and explore issues in confidence. My approach is integrative and tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of each client.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a Postgraduate Certificate in Psychological Counselling, a Masters's Degree in Social Work, a Diploma in Applied Mental Health (Postgraduate Level 7) and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis from an Integrative Perspective (Postgraduate Level 7) awarded by Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy.

My professional background is in NHS mental health services. I have 18 years of experience working as a mental health practitioner in both community and hospital settings and have worked with a wide range of severe and enduring mental health issues, seeing people from crisis to recovery.

I began my psychotherapy training in 2019 and have held a private practice for the past 15 months.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics. I am currently working towards accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

My focus is primarily on the person, rather than the problem. So, I work with whatever issues my clients choose to bring to therapy. My practise is very much tailored to the specific needs of the individual, whether the problems are in relationships, struggles with identity, low mood, motivation, issues around food, addiction, or feelings of alienation in the world, for example. My focus is always on the therapeutic relationship, building a space in which clients can feel free to explore whatever issues are important to them.
