About me
Counselling can help you feel empowered, be kinder to yourself, set boundaries, and make the changes you want to see in your life. Change can feel scary; I can support you with navigating the prospect of change and implementing the changes you want in your life. I am an integratively trained counsellor, meaning I am trained in various modalities. I offer a bespoke approach that can be short or long-term. As part of my training, I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor (Clarkson's model). I also have experience and training in implementing CBT to support change.
I also offer a person-centred approach based on the humanistic approach developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940s. Rogers believed that people can reach their full potential if given the right conditions. As a therapist, I aim to provide these conditions throughout your sessions. Many clients work with me because I offer an integrative approach and can adapt to their needs. I have helped many clients grow in confidence, explore their issues, and learn to be the expert of themselves.
I also facilitate an online therapeutic support group for those experiencing any aspect of menopause. The group is limited to six individuals, and the next group is due to start in mid-September. Please get in touch with me for further information and details on how to book.
Having completed a Postgraduate Certificate (MSc pending), I also offer attachment-focused therapy (AFT). Having trained with peer-reviewed, published authors and researchers Dr Ben Grey, Dr Steve Farnfield, and Dr Rudi Dallos, I share this knowledge with my clients. I use Dr Crittenden's research to inform my therapeutic approach. An attachment-focused approach can support building secure relationships and learning new ways to relate to others through improved self-awareness. In my experience, many clients want to explore the interpersonal aspects of their lives, and this approach can be very beneficial. An attachment-focused approach can be used alongside a psychodynamic approach to explore childhood experiences. I am qualified to conduct (not code) Adult Attachment Interviews (AAi) (Additional costs apply).
I can support you with issues such as anxiety, bereavement, chronic illness, divorce, relationship issues, family issues, addressing habits, phobias, self-harming, gender issues, sexuality issues, panic attacks, childhood trauma, adult trauma, neurodiversity, work issues, and bereavement by suicide.
I am currently working with adults 18 and older in my private practice. All sessions are currently online. I have excellent client retention working online, having previously worked on the BetterHelp platform.
An initial 30-minute consultation (fee applicable) is available to see if we can work together and for you to ask any questions.
Daytime and evening sessions are available.
*Discounted rates are offered at a discretionary rate. I normally take one counselling student per year. If finances are a barrier to accessing therapy, please contact me.
Client reviews
"I feel incredibly at ease in our sessions. Sam provides me with insights that have helped me challenge some of my usual behaviours."
"Through Sam's patience and understanding, I feel I have grown and developed more resilience during a time of uncertainty and discontentment in my own life. I am grateful for Sam's observations that have helped me realise how my present connects to my past as this has given me clearer insight into what my needs and values are. Please consider Sam if you are looking for a therapist who's respectful, open-minded, friendly and knowledgeable."
"I've been with Sam for about two months and already she's helped me a lot. I've already seen a lot of growth with my behaviour. She's very welcoming and easy to talk to and helps me consider solutions to anything I talk about. I feel I can trust her."
"Working with Sam has been amazing! With her help I have completely turned around my thinking and have a much more positive outlook on myself and life. She has been so understanding and helped me work out what my values are. I would highly recommend working with her. She has been very open minded and friendly and produced some very positive results."
"I had worked with a few therapists before connecting with Sam and am pleased that I finally found someone who was in a position to connect and work with me. My previous experiences had made me less open to the therapeutic process but Sam instantly put my mind at rest with her professional and friendly manner. She was not only able to quickly assess my underlying challenges and begin an appropriate treatment but she gave me space to understand what was happening for myself. I cannot thank her enough for her guidance and support. Through her work Sam has not only positively impacted my life but also the lives of those around me."

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
