About me

I get asked a lot by prospective clients: When is the right time for counselling? Is counselling right for me?

Firstly, there is no wrong or right time to be in therapy, this depends on the individual and presenting issues. I promote early Intervention as this can prevent issues from becoming unmanageable and support you in making changes. I also offer psychoeducation as part of sessions to help you understand mental health and emotional wellbeing. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your experiences (past and present) and feelings. I offer a 30 minute initial consultation to see if I am the right therapist for you, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and for me to tell you more about how I work.

I offer an integrative approach, that can be short or long term. I'm a qualified person centred and psychodynamic counsellor with experience of implementing CBT. I offer a bespoke service that can incorporates ecotherapy, mindfulness, play/art therapy and working creatively. I have professional interest in Attachment theory and am currently studying at postgraduate level.  My professional interests are also in Polyvagal theory, PTSD and desensitisation work, neurodiversity and working systemically. I complete regular continued professional development and adhere to the BACP ethical framework as a registered member.

I offer counselling to children, adolescents and adults. I have experience working therapeutically in both primary and secondary schools. I have experience and training working with neurodiverse individuals, those with SEND, chronic illness and/or disability. I offer support pre, pending and post diagnosis, supporting the needs of the individual/family.

Client review:

"I've been with Sam for about two months and already she's helped me a lot. I've already seen a lot of growth with my behaviour. She's very welcoming and easy to talk to and helps me consider solutions to anything I talk about. I feel I can trust her."

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
